Scared of dancing...anyone else?

Courtney, on February 16, 2020 at 7:58 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9
Getting married in 2 months and the anxiety of dancing is getting real. We have a DJ and all that, but I am more reserved and don't really dance a lot.

I don't really know how to do any of the popular line dances like Footloose or Cupid Shuffle. I'm sure with a little "liquid courage" I will be more relaxed 😂
I just know everyone expects the bride to be on the dance floor all night and I'm starting to get a little anxious...

I don’t think you’re expected to be on the dance floor a lot if you don’t want to be. You’ll be plenty busy mingling with guests.

Honestly, I didn't even get a chance to dance as much as I wanted because I was pulled away to mingle/take photos with people.

Don’t be scared. You’ll have your first dance. And then you can disappear in the crowd mingling with guests.

It definitely helps if the couple is dancing and having a good time because all eyes are on you two that day. So you two set the tone of the day/night and guests will follow. But if you’re sitting in the chair and being bored, then your guests will feel that way too. In those cases they’ll eat, sit a little while, get bored and then leave.

Well thank you so much for those encouraging words!!! I mean seriously? I didn't say I was NOT going to dance... I just said I am feeling anxious because I usually do not like being the center of attention.

Honestly, you should have just kept this opinion to yourself. It was not needed.

Whoa! There was no malice in my response. Unfortunately there’s no audio on the message boards... it’s only typing and no tone. I was simply saying that you set the tone of the wedding day. That goes for FH and I as well. So we have to set the tone for our OWN reception as well. No negativity in that concept at all. I was literally speaking from experience (having been a wedding planner for 10 years). But no worries... I’m sure you’ll work through your anxiety and have a wonderful wedding.

I’m a bad dancer!! Me and FH joke that our first dance will be awful because we are both terrible dancers lol either way I haven’t let it stress me out too much.. I have too many other things to focus on at the moment! I def think liquid courage helps! Try not to stress about it I feel like you will be mingling more than dancing.

I hadn’t danced since middle school but I was having so much fun at my wedding I didn’t care. It was the actual first time I danced with my husband since we met. And I definitely didn’t dance that much anyway bc I was mingling.

My FH does not dance. We will not be doing to typical dances. If you have a good DJ and a great group of friends, someone will always be on the dance floor. And if they aren’t, so what? Enjoy the good music!

Don’t worry about what everyone else thinks. You don’t have to answer to anyone but yourself! Be who you want!
