Scam or real?

There's a transportation company I reached out to about booking, but there's a catch. It's just starting out. We're talking 16 Facebook likes, no reviews. I remember this company being active in a couple wedding Facebook groups I'm in and they got a lot of responses. They're only saying they'll charge me $325 for a 24 person party bus from 1:30 pm until 11:30 pm. This would basically be the guest shuttle and just transport bridal party early to the venue before coming back for guests. The phone number listed is an Illinois number which is where I am. I'm going to ask to see a contract, but I don't know how else to make sure they're legit. I know they're just starting out, so thats a reason to have the price lower, but I'm just raising some red flags. Does anyone have any ideas on how to see if they're a legit company or should I just run? I'm looking into school buses too, but this would be nicer for us and be able to transport the bridal party.

Can you ask them for customer references.

Maybe ask to swing by to check out the interior of the bus in-person? (act like you want to make sure everything is perfect). If they have a decent shuttle bus, and they seem legit, I'd give your money to the budding company!

Check Bbb or ask to see if they have previous customers they can let you talk to for reviews. I always say if it's too good to be true then something is wrong. Just do your due diligence and if you still feel like something is up don't do it.

I absolutely agree with this! Everybody has to start somewhere. Make sure they physically have it and that it's insure in their name then get a contract.

I'll ask them about other customer references. They aren't super close for me to be able to go see their buses, but maybe I can ask for more recent pics then search the image?

If you're that concerned, then make the time to go there, even if it isn't close.

I don't think I'll be able to check it out in person, but I just asked for references and more recent pictures. I'll find out after that where they are located and see about taking a trip. I want to help out a new business. I just always have to raise a red flag when I can't easily see reviews.

Pay with a credit card. That way you'll get your money back if it's a scam. Make sure you have a contract, too.

They may be a budding new company, but pricing your product that low makes no sense to me. 10 hours for $325? That's making zero profit...actually negative profit.

    The cheap can be expensive.....

I was actually going to say the same thing. I understand having a lower price as a new business so they can build their business, but this is extremely low. It is so low that I would be concerned why. Even a new business needs to make a profit. They could still compete with other businesses by having a lower price but one that's in the same ballpark as others. As an example, I hired a vintage car for 3 hours for my wedding and it cost about $1000. I'm all for helping businesses grow, but I don't think I'd use my wedding as their test subject.

Get the business name, owners names, etc and run searches on them. Contact the BBB with all the names to see what action, if any, they have had. Read the contract carefully and if you do book, pay by credit card. Also, just make sure that if you do book with them that you have a back up plan just in case they don't show up.
