Say Yes To The Dress...Bridal Assistant?

ChancesAre4u, on September 25, 2009 at 9:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

I'm watching tonights episode, and noticed that at the wedding the bride had a Bridal Assistant...what does a Bridal Assistant do, (the brides dress ripped and the bridal assistant fixed it) and how different are they from a wedding planner/coordinator?

I had a bridal assistant supplied by our venue, on top of the day of coordinator....she really was like my personal slave all day long, not saying I treated her like or anything but she was trying to cater to us constantly! As we walked around to take pics she would carry my dress, she would bring us food and drinks every time I turned around so we didn't miss out on appetizers during the cocktail hour, she helped bustle my dress, all that kind of stuff... the day of coordinator was running around checking on vendors , food, servers, stuff to make sure that the event itself ran smoothly...that's the difference, planner/coordinator makes sure the business end is working right and the bridal assistant keeps the bride happy all day! I was very happy for BOTH of them and it's one the reasons we chose our venue

Hey you're in the Philly area right! We got married at the Glen Foerd Mansion in north east Philly....most incredible place in the world and they pamper you and your guests like nothing I've ever seen before! They are a lot $ per person but since they include SOOOO much in the price it ends up not really being more money than a lot of other places...they'll give ya a bridal assistant for the day!

Yes, I live in philly, I did look at them and they were in my top 3, but budget wouldn't allow it, my co-workers son got married there and told me how wonderful it was.

It's common to have a personal attendant to assist you during the day. Typically this is a close friend who didn't make the cut as a bridesmaid. But they are there to help during the day!

Wasn't that chick's sister a biznitch? lol she stepped on and ripped the bride's dress, then called the bride a bridezilla for being upset about it and refused to apologized, even said she didn't want to be near the "bridezilla". My FH just mumbled the "b" word under his breath.. lol

I watched the episodes last night for the first time. The person I really felt sorry for was the young bride who had the twin sister who just crushed her spirits everything she came out in something. Then on top of that she really didn't want to be there. She even came back into the dressing room stressing that she and the others had places to be and wanted to know how long would be be or how more was she going to try on. I thought that was so sad. This is why I only took my mother and my sister with me and we had a great time!

My step sister had one. She stayed all night and day with her. Yes if she got a stain or dress had problems she was there. I think it is a good idea. It cost 500.00 so if you think thats a good price go for itSmiley smile

OMG Danielle I've never heard that before but it sounds so harsh! "You can't be my BM but I'll let you wait on me all day!" WHoa!! Maybe the MOH is kinda like this role, but they don't run and fetch you food all day and stuff, they are supposed to enjoy some of the night themeselves! I wouldn't be able to bring myself to treat any friends or family like it was their JOB to serve me....I had a hard enough time doing that with a woman who really was paid to do it! I wanted everyone at the wedding to feel as pampered as I did, that's why they're "guests"

I'm with you Laura. If someone should decide to have a Bridal Assistant I feel it should be a paid vendor like anyone else in the service field, i.e. photographer, caterer, waitstaff, chauffeur, etc. If someone is a guest they should not feel obligated to focus on pampering or serving you all day rather than joining the celebration with fellow guests.

If my sister ever acted like the twin sister in that episode of Say Yes to the Dress I would have just told her to leave. No skin off my back. But I have a similar distate for asking a friend to wait on me hand and foot on my big day.

The only thing is... my mom is getting married (before me) and she wants me to be the Assistant and do some of the day of planner stuff. The only reason I'm not a bridesmaid is because they didn't want to leave any of the kids out. Her fiance has 3 kids of his own.

So, true to my nature, I couldn't say no to my mom. Sad really but I am an extremely organized human being and it almost makes sense. I will have check list after check list and I know everything will run smoothly. I'm not prone to freak outs and am a good problem solver... who knows, maybe I will find my true calling... doubt it though.

Sorry... I know this is an old posting but I still had to weigh in. Smiley smile

Ladies- Laura has the right idea of the difference between the PA and the DOC. Whenever possible, I would strongly suggest you hire someone outside the family for these tasks. TRUST ME you get your money's worth.

I agree!!! I am a wedding day assistant and I take so much stress off the bride. All she has to do is look beautiful and have fun. If you are looking for a bridal assistant that can do ANYTHING you need done on the day of the wedding with lots of experience and you live in the Phoenix, AZ area go to http://www.wix.com/tina393/phoenixweddingdayassistant

I charge $55 an hour or $385 for the day (up to 8 hours) so it is really reasonable for peace of mind. Do you really want your family and friends being responsible for making everything EXACTLY the way you want things? More info and contact info is on my website-Spring 2012 is booking up fast, so contact me asap to see if your date is available. Happy planning!!
