Asking other people to fund your wedding is not appropriate and not received well. If you can't afford the wedding, don't have one and go to the court house or wait until you can save up enough to have the wedding you want. Ways to save money is have a limited guest list, beer/wine bar only, catering from a local restaurant, sheet cake rather than a tiered cake, online RSVP's, opt out of favors, limited decor, etc. Or you can host a short cake and punch reception after your ceremony. Figure out your budget and put a certain amount from each pay check into an account each payday until you cover it. You can also get a part time job, sell items you no longer need/want online, and cut back on your monthly expenses (subscriptions, memberships, etc.) until you meet your goal.

Asking someone else to pay for your wedding is rude. Your wedding is when you get married legally. Anything following is a celebration or renewal of vows.

Save money by setting a certain amount aside each month into a savings account. Go to the courthouse or a local park and have a cake and punch reception at the park or community center.

GoFundMe is meant for actual causes, not a wedding. The best way to save for your wedding is working a full time job and setting aside money from every paycheck to a savings account.

Echoing PP, a GoFundMe is not an appropriate avenue to generate money for your wedding. The best way is to set a realistic budget and save with that in mind. In order to do this, you'll want to figure out how much money you and your fiancé can save each month after you've paid your bills and savings. Then, you'll multiply that number by the length of your engagement to determine how much you would realistically have to spend. For example, say you and your fiancé can save $1000 per month (for ease of math) after all living expenses are paid for. Your engagement is 23 months long from now until then, so you'll multiply that $1000 x 23. This would give you $23,000 as a budget. Obviously, the saved amount will vary based on your income/bills, but setting a budget that way will help to ensure that you're having a wedding you can afford without either going in debt or asking anyone else to fund it.

Delete the Gofundme and lower your budget to something you and your future husband can afford by yourselves or with your parents help. Asking people to find your wedding isn’t appropriate. Setting up a honeymoon fund is fine, but an entire wedding is not.
Start with talking about budget. A realistic budget is one you can save for each month without sacrificing your necessary items. My wedding is 3/11/2023 so just a little before yours. We’re doing fake flowers because we have bad allergies, making some of our centerpieces and decor and buying our invitation suite off of Etsy and printing it out using Cards and Pockets to save money.

But no, you cannot post your Gofund me in here and expect for that to be received well. Everyone here is saving for their own wedding as well. Lower your budget to something more affordable without asking everyone to contribute.

I agree with everyone posting, GoFundMe is not appropriate at all. Asking for people to help fund your wedding is EXTREMELY rude. You are the host of the party, you pay for everything. What exactly is your goal? The average wedding could run you 20K, but you could easily have a modest wedding for 5k or less. If you want to get married go to the courthouse and call it a day, it could be special without breaking the bank.

Cutting your guest list is the number one saver. Since food/drinks/decor is per person, the cost adds up super fast the more people you invite.
I agree with everyone though that you need to first figure out your budget. There are a lot of great tips in the previous comments.
    Good luck!

Ok so as far as saving goes, whether for a wedding or anything else you need to do 1 of 2 things. Or better yet - do both.

    1. Decrease your expenses. For example - smoke less pot. Stop ordering out. Less coffee runs. Cut back on subscriptions - cable Netflix Hulu etc..2. Increase your income. Get a better paying job or take on a second or third job.
Figure out what is a reasonable amount to expect to save doing the above and start to gain a sense of how much you can/want to spend on a wedding.

It's kind of hard whenever you're on a limited income because you're disabled and you can't work who due to health complications

I appreciate that you have limited means but the reality of the matter is that you need to be realistic and restructure your dreams so that they are in touch with what you can actually achieve.

Most of us dream of flying first class but will probably never afford it so we fly economy instead. Is it as luxurious as first class? No. Does it get us where we need to be anyway? Yes.

The same principle applies here - any wedding will get you to your goal of being married, but the kind of wedding you have will need to mirror what you can afford.

My advice - delete the GoFundMe, squirrel away whatever cash you can reasonably afford to put aside for the wedding, and start with small plans that you can afford until such time as you can budget for a few more lavish add-ons.

I’m also disabled, I have three autoimmune diseases. Since this is the case for you as well, lower your budget for your wedding. You can have a beautiful day for under $3,000.
