Save the Dates/engagement photos

Kiyome, on February 20, 2021 at 1:36 PM Posted in Planning 0 20
Hey everyone! So my fiance and I are getting married in Vermont in the winter next year. We are having an intimate destination wedding w/parents and my best friend. I just wanted to know if it would be weird that we have our engagement photos done in San Diego. We are visiting there in April and my sister is really talented with photography and wanted to do our pictures. I know the weather is entirely opposite from what our wedding day will be like, so would it be weird to send out save the dates when the photos took place at the beach? 😂

I think that would be fin.e. They don't have to fit a certain season/aesthetic unless you want them to.

Well we would send save the dates out, but would it be better to do a winter engagement photo shoot? We live in Utah.

It wouldn't be weird at all. I live in IL and was going to have mine done in AZ but had to cancel cause of COVID. I'm sure they will be lovely!

    Congrats!

Sounds good! I just wanted to make sure that didn't seem entirely crazy. Haha

Not weird at all! My sister got married in Florida in February and had their engagement photos done in the summer in New Orleans. I’m getting married in the mountains of Tennessee in late September, but we’re doing our engagement photos in the summer in Colorado. There are no rules, do whatever makes you happiest!

If you want, you can do a day trip to Big Bear Lake (maybe closest to you to see snow right now?) and take the pictures there. A friend if mine had their wedding somewhere in California mountain last month, and it looked like a winter season with less snow, but still more winter-y than else where in California. My std pictures are typical California landscape (yellow and dry), but we are having our event in lush Hawaii. It doesn’t really matter either way 😉

So I think it be fun to have sunnier pictures. Your wedding pictures will be all winter themed already, how many winter pictures do you need? It’s just a save the date and it be nice to have pictures with a different as the tic then you will have.

Definitely NOT weird. You don’t have to have it done where you live or where you’re having your wedding.

It would be fun either way, in my opinion. Haha. We love the snow and winter. We were mostly just worried people might think it weird🙂 but we will most likely be getting our STD pictures done in San Diego 🙂 we've never been to San Diego anyways, so it could be a fun adventure 👍🏼

That sounds awesome! I actually have an aunt who owns a cabin in Big Bear. That's a really good idea. Oh my word, Hawaii is GORGEOUS! I've been once, and it's easily the best vacation I've been on! Your wedding will be awesome! Have you been there?

I don’t think it’s weird. I guess I don’t actually analyze engagement pics to that level, with regard to weather or location, etc. But even if some people felt it was “weird”. Would you really let that stop you from taking pics in San Diego? Hopefully not. 😉 I live in sunny San Diego and pics here are great!

That's so cool! Never been to Maui and Kauai, but it's definitely on my bucket list! It would be fun to island jump. If you stay in Oahu, I highly recommend staying in the north shore. We stayed in Waialua which is really close to Haleiwa. I've heard many people say they hated Oahu because of how crowded it is, but that's also because they stayed in Honolulu and didn't visit other beautiful locations! The east coast is beautiful too! Oahu Revealed is a book we read that I always recommend people to get. It has very useful information for first time visitors and is a quick read!

Thank you! I will read that book 😊. We never did island hoping, but also not against it. We travel a lot (35 countries so far) but I personally found my peace in Hawaii (Maui/Kauai). The culture, warm weather, lush landscape, humidity, and the fact that those 2 islands are not crowded is a dream home to me. If living cost isn’t that crazy, I would have moved there 😅

I don't think that would be weird at all! We had our engagement photos taken in the fall (lots of leaves on trees, sweater weather), and our wedding was a summer wedding in June! I didn't even think twice about it.

Definitely not weird! We're getting married Labor Day weekend so "Summer Weather" and just had our engagement shoot this past weekend in two feet of snow!

I understand sending engagement photos but am not sure why you are sending STDs if it's just your parents and best friend you are inviting.

We are also inviting siblings. Fiance has 4 and I have 7. And sending the save the dates is a good idea so people can save up and we can have everyone we want there.
