Save-the-dates

Vanessa, on April 3, 2020 at 4:26 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8
My wedding is scheduled for November 22, 2020 in Quintana Roo Mexico. Due to it being a destination wedding I got my save the dates done early. I planned on sending them out the first week of March but the pandemic began to intensify around that time so I’ve since held onto them. I don’t have any plans on postponing the event but I don’t know if asking guests to travel in the midst of all the panic is a great idea either. I want my guests to know I’m still planning and I need to know if they’re still willing to travel. When should I put the save the dates in the mail? I don’t want to wait too long and no one has time to prepare and/or save up for travel but I don’t want to get a bunch of cancellations due to fear. Someone please help me, what should I do?

It's fine to send save the dates now, but even without a global pandemic, you shouldn't expect yes or no responses until much closer to your wedding.

I’m not expecting many confirmations following the save the dates but I thought maybe a few no’s from those that can’t or are unwilling to travel. Should I not expect that either?

It's possible, but I don't see many people being able to give a definite answer with so many unknowns going on right now. No one knows what things will be like in eight months.

Possibly hold off until the end of this month? I feel like the general public might be in a better mind space to be making decisions at that point.

Definitely send them now. Everyone know that the potential to change is looming. But people need to know they will be invited. Usually when you have a shower or holiday ( in my family) people will mention if they cant come before invitations get sent out. But that could just be my family lol

    Congratulations!!!

    Hi Vanessa,

Congrats on your engagement! I agree with most of the thoughts above. I'm not sure people will be offering a definite answer when receiving the save-the-date.

This is such a special time for you and your partner so don't let COVID-19 bring you down. I say send the save-the-dates now! Your guests are going to be so excited to get this small piece of brightness during this dark time. This will also give your guests plenty of time to plan ahead. Once they receive the actual invite, I think we will have a better view (globally), of how the future is going to play out post-pandemic.

    I hope this helps.

Sending so much love your way!

    Smiley heart

Thank you sooo much. Everyone’s input has helped so much and I’m going to send them out this month no matter what. I worked so hard on them and I can’t wait for them to be seen
