Save the Dates

Skylar, on May 30, 2019 at 6:53 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

*I think this belongs here?

What do you do with save the dates? do you mail them, are they given out at something? If they are mailed out, does something else go in the envelopes with it? It looks like a tiny 'business card' size, so what else would go in a basin envelope size? TIA

I’ve never seen a save the date that’s as small as a business card. Usually they are post card size. Ours were magnets so people could stick them on their fridge. They usually have the couples name, the wedding date, wedding location, and a wedding website if you have one. Sometimes people put their engagement picture on them. They go out in the mail 6-8 months before the wedding.

    Yes, this exactly!

I was also going to say that they are not required, but a lot of couples like them. They are especially handy if you have a lot of out of town guests, or if you're planning a destination wedding, so guests can start to plan their travel to your wedding.

We only have a few out of town guests, but we like the Save The Dates, so we're doing them, with a few of our engagement photos on them.

I both mailed and handed them in person. For those who were living far from us, we mailed them. For those who we were geographically close to, we hand-delivered. We were going to mail all of them, but when we asked some of our guests, they told us to skip the stamps and hand-deliver them when we meet up.

Our save-the-dates did not have anything else included in the envelope except the card itself, which was postcard sized. It had our name, venue name, and date on it. Not too much details since they'll be more specific on the actual invitation and wedding website.

I hand delivered some and mailed most of them (due to most of them being out of state). My STD did not have enough space for our wedding website (I did magnet STDs from Shutterfly), I printed our website on card stock and cut into the size of business cards so that out of towners can visit the website for travel details. For my FH's family, we want them to be able to catch up with him and meet me more exclusively the morning after at breakfast (so we can still dance and have fun at our reception), so I made different cards letting them know there is an option to join the bride and groom for breakfast, place and time TBD. But usually most people don't add any extras to STDs.

I’ve never seen a business card sized save the date. They’re usually post card sized or larger. Nothing else needs to go in the envelope with it. You can hand deliver to local guests if you want, but we mailed all of ours.

Most of the ones I've seen are 3.5''x2'' but I'll look at post card ones. I like the idea of handing them to closer guests and only mailing out ones for farther away.

I'm planning to make my save the dates smaller than postcard size. Somewhere in the 3x5 range.
We will be handing some out to our immediate family and mailing the rest.
I also plan to hand out some of our invitations to close family as well. If I'm going to be seeing them, saving a few bucks on stamps couldn't hurt.

The most recent wedding I attended (April 2019) had a credit card size save the date along with the invitation all mailed in the same envelope. I don't know if that's normal but I don't see anything wrong with it.

Typically they are mailed by themselves in an envelope. I've never seen one that is business card size, typically they are 3x5 or 4x6. It just has the date & town on the card, with the bride & groom's name, and the wedding website if they have one.
