Save the Dates

Felicity, on October 11, 2019 at 4:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 13
When did you send your save the dates?
We aren't having a destination wedding but most guests will have to travel and stay in a hotel for our wedding because it isn't local. I wasn't sure when I should send them! Thank you !!!

I don't understand. It's not a destination wedding, but it's not local? If people have to travel, I would send them 8-10 months before the wedding.

Haha its hard to explain! So its about a 4 hour drive for most of our guests. We tried to choose a middle point/city in between both of our families. Our families live on opposite sides of our state.

That would be considered a destination wedding then, so sending them out a little early would be fine.

I guess I thought destination weddings meant like out of the country or state haha! My mistake!!

We sent ours out 7 months before. We got married where we live but pretty much every other guest had to travel and stay in a hotel. We would’ve sent them a little earlier but we were waiting on engagement pictures.

I think it's a regional thing.. In the midwest, it totally common to travel 2+ hours to the wedding and I would never ever consider it a destination wedding. I agree with you that destination wedding is out of state, you know, at a "destination" ! But it seems like not everyone thinks that way Smiley smile anyways, I would stick to the regular timeline that they suggest 10-8 months

We sent ours 6 months before our wedding, which is typically what is “normal”. All of our guests had to travel at least 1 hour and many came from further, including out of state. We had very few declines, so 6 months in advance seems to be just fine in my opinion.

We're sending ours out sometime in January for our August 22, 2020 wedding. Most of our guests are traveling anywhere between 2-4 hours to come to our wedding with a handful coming from out of state. I wanted to give everyone plenty of time but also didn't want them to get lost in the shuffle of holiday cards and stuff.
