Save The Dates

Kellie, on January 12, 2023 at 10:04 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3

My friend is planning a wedding where she will have her ceremony on a Friday with a small group of friends and family and then a reception on the next day for a larger group. How should she word her save the date? Can everyone receive one save the date or does she need to send two?

If it's small enough of a group, just rewrite it on the back. Otherwise I'd do 2 cards in the envelopes that require it.

Agree with Alyssa -- you are asking the small friend group to reserve two separate days but you don't want to tell the larger group they are not invited to the Friday event. As for wording, since the friend will already be married before the larger party, I would say something like "Save the Date to celebrate the marriage of..."

She will definitely need to separate save the dates, simply because her two very different events are on different dates. It could cause a lot of confusion if the wording mentioned both events but some recipients are only allowed to come to one of them.

That said, save the dates aren't actually necessary. She could just tell the small group about the wedding by calling/texting/emailing them. Then send save the dates to the larger group to let them know about the party.

I definitely agree with Caryn that the message to the larger group shouldn't imply they will get to see the couple actually get married. It's fine to separate the events, but just be clear so everyone knows what to expect.
