Save the dates

Megan, on November 14, 2019 at 3:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
My wedding is November of 2020, is it too early to be getting and sending out save the dates? I feel like it's not because that gives my guests tons of ample time to RSVP and make sure to request off or put on their calendars to make sure they request off as it gets closer..

I think a year in advance should be fine for Save the Dates!

Usually a year in advance is the recommended longest.

It depends! If this is a destination wedding or is during a holiday weekend, then I think sending them out a year in advance is fine. If it's a local wedding where nearly every guest lives nearby, then I'd send them 6-8 months in advance (so March to May 2020). If most guests will be traveling, I'd do 8-10 months in advance (so January to March 2020).

Also, just FYI, guests don't RSVP for save the dates. You're just letting them know now when/where the wedding is (and possibly what your wedding website is) so that they can mark their calendars and request time off work if needed. You'll send out your invitations in late summer or early fall next year, and that will be when people RSVP.

Typically save the dates are sent out 6-8 months before your wedding. If you are doing a destination wedding, or have several out of town guests, 10 months.

You typically send invitations 6-8 weeks before your wedding date and that is what your guests will RSVP to.

Mine is October 2020 and we’re sending save-the-dates this month. We have a lot of people coming from out of town and with kids so they need plenty of notice! I say go for it.

I sent mine out in January 2019 for last weekend, mostly because after sitting on my hands as far as planning goes for 8 months things came up. I was planning sending them out in November. I got a few less yes's than I expected but slept easy knowing at least everyone knew about it.

I think it’s way too early. I would definitely wait til after the holidays. People are so busy right now and with all the holiday gifts and cards your Save the Dates will get lost in the shuffle. I bet a lot more will get thrown out with Christmas cards then if they were sent in February/March. Let people be excited and have fun for the holidays, then calm down, and get them excited again for your wedding when nothing else is going on.

I think you could definitely order them around Black Friday to take advantage of the sales, and then send them after the new year is past! If you sent them in January, 10 months is more than enough time for guests to prepare!
