Save the dates

Heather, on December 26, 2019 at 9:39 AM Posted in Planning 0 7
Are paper save the dates a waste of time and money? We only have a few guests coming from out of state that it *might* benefit, but we’re having a tough time deciding on if the paper SAve the Dates are worth it? What are your thoughts?

There are pros and cons to sending save the dates. The biggest con is that it locks you into a guest list 8 or so months before your wedding and a lot can change in that time. You could also consider sending them to VIPs and out of town guests only.

We had a similar situation. What we decided on is my fiancé’s side is going to send out save the dates for his side, but my side, we basically talk to everyone that we are inviting so we are not going to send a save the date to them, just regular invites when the time comes.

I think you could just send them to close family who may not be the best at remembering dates and out of towners!

They are personal preference. Most couples don't do STD's at all. If you have it in the budget for them and want to, go for it but you can just do digital ones or skip them altogether and wait for the invitations. For those out of state guests, maybe send their invites a week or 2 earlier than the others if you think they will need extra time to make arrangements.

I personally think physical STDs are a waste of money and environmentally dubious, but I have also seen forums on WW about non-STD topics turn into a battleground over how impossible it is to marry without them (insert eye roll). If you're on the fence I'd recommend looking into electronic STDs. They are beautiful and inexpensive. Could be the perfect middle ground for you.

Personally, I would skip out on Save the Dates - that's what we're doing! We only have two family members having to fly in as well & then like 90% of the guest list lives in the area we are getting married in. IF you think you should do STD's check out GreetingsIsland.com, they have free e-cards! My friend used them to save costs & I thought they were great (:
