Save the Dates

Lacey, on September 30, 2019 at 10:04 AM Posted in Planning 0 7
My fiancé and I are getting married September 26, 2020 so we have a year to get everything done. Well like most girls, I've been dreaming about my wedding since I was 16. I am also a planner, I need to get things done way ahead of schedule so I don't fall behind. So of course, our save the dates are done, addressed and ready to go out. Is it too early to send them?

Yes. Unless you're having a destination wedding or lots of out of town guests, save the dates should go out 6-8 months before the wedding.

Do people have to travel for your wedding? Traditional timelines say to send stds 8-10 months ahead of time. I sent mine 11 months ahead as my entire family would need to travel/book hotels

We're getting married 9/6/2020 and are planning on sending ours out at the beginning of November (based on our engagement pictures being Wednesday, turn around time for our photographer, and order/shipment of save the dates). Most of our guests will be traveling so we wanted to make sure we got ours out around the 10 month mark

I would wait unless you are having a destination wedding. We are having one and didn't even send them out until about 10 months before.

We sent ours out 10 months in advance, more than half our guest list was out of state and all our in state guests still had to stay at a hotel to be close enough. And we are off age where almost all of our friends are getting married, so you have to claim/inform guests of your date super far in advance. Even prior to sending them, we had guests asking when we were going to send them!

It's not too early, just make sure that you are 100% sure about everyone you send a save the date to. Once you send the save the date you HAVE to invite them, so you can't cut your list after. It's okay to not send Save the dates to everyone. We sent to family a year in advance because our families need way in advance notice to be able to attend something, but we waited until 8 months to send to friends just because we wanted to be a little more sure we want to invite them and we can afford that many people. I personally think that any later than 8 months in advance is not enough notice.

I plan to send them out at the end of December/beginning of January since I'm getting married 9/6/20, that way people likely haven't yet made their Labor Day weekend plans. So that's just over 9 months in advance. I've been seeing 8-10 months, but 12 if it's a destination wedding.
