Save the Dates

Ashley, on April 14, 2019 at 1:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
When should we send out save the dates? I’m reading a lot of different things. Our wedding is not until June 2020. I’m a teacher and want as many things as possible done in the summer since I’ll have extra time, but it that too soon? I don’t want people to forget or lose it. I was thinking end of August/September. Our engagement shoot is beginning of September though. Should we wait for the pictures to have that on the save the dates?

They should go out 6-8 months before the wedding. You could have them made over the summer, but I would wait until November at the earliest to send them. It’s up to you if you want to include an engagement photo, we chose a template that didn’t have one.

I think you should wait and have your pictures! Maybe send them out over a fall break if you have one, or over thanksgiving break!

Depending on if it’s destination or not that would factor into how soon you’d send them out. Our wedding is April 2020 and since we already took our engagement photos we simply got our save the dates and already sent them out to our for sure guests. We’re waiting a while to send them out to people we may want to invite.
It’s just one thing checked off your checklist then!

I am a teacher and I 100% get this! I will have done all of our planning during the school year, aside from the last 2ish months so I am so envious! I think everything says to send them out 6-8 months in advance so for you that would be October if you went the full 8 months, so honestly I don't think sending them out in August or September is a big deal, especially if it would make your life easier! If you want to wait until the 6-8 month mark, maybe get them all made, ordered, stuffed, and addressed in the summer and then all you have to do in the fall is buy stamps and mail them out.

I'm a teacher getting married in June 2020, too!! We just did our engagement photos today lol and we are probably going to send out STDs sometime lateish summer. We are also having a destination wedding (well, it's in Florida and no one in either family lives near there) so we wanted to make sure everyone knows and can save up for flights/hotels.

But if you can swing it, I would wait to send out the STDs until you get your engagement photos back, especially if you plan on using the photos on your STDs

I'm a teacher too, so I totally get it. That's why our wedding is in the summer, lol!

We get married this July, and we sent our Save the Dates in November 2018.

We had a "destination" wedding in that 80% had to travel far to get to where our wedding was. We were engaged May of 2017, sent our save our dates in January 2018, invitations late May 2018, had our engagement photos done in August 2018, and were married September 23, 2018.

As a planner I always rather know things well in advance, and totally get the urge to get everything into place!

We didn't wait for our engagement photos since we due to scheduling it was a month before we were married and didn't mind since we weren't going to use photos for our stationery anyway.

    Cheers
