Save the Dates with or without "Formal Invtation to Follow" ??

Erin, on June 15, 2010 at 7:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

I've already printed the Save the Dates WITHOUT the "Formal invitation to follow" caveat; however, I'm enclosing an accommodation card with hotel information (which are NOT printed off yet). Should I put the caveat on the accommodation card or leave it out all togetjer?

I'm not sure what you want to do. But I'll tell you this- I actually forgot to put "Invitation to Follow" on mine and let me tell you, I had so many confused people. They thought that the Save-the-Date was the invitation but was missing some information.

I can honestly tell you I would have been one of those people who was confused and thought it was the actual invitation. I never knew about save-the-dates until I came here, really. I guess I'd heard about them, but I didn't realize the purpose. I still don't understand the point of them except for sending to long-distance guests, but at least I know what they are now!

Personally i wouldnt be confused, since they are sent out so far in advance. i dont see why you cant write it on the accomidation card, seems harmless anyway.

I think you should include it- Natasha T. is not the only one who doesn't know about save the dates.

Definitely use a line that states that the invitation is coming separately. If it does not indicate that the invitation is following, your guests will assume this is the invitation and that the most important info (time and location) were left off.

I would think "save the date" is just for saving the date and I would assume more information would be coming later. But if you're going to include an accommodation card, I guess it wouldn't hurt to include a note. Something like (just thinking off the top of my head): "Here is some information on where to stay. We'll send a formal invitation later." OR "Formal invitation to follow. Here is some accommodation information to get you started." Something like that. Hope that helps.
