Save the Dates--when?

Molly, on November 1, 2019 at 10:15 AM Posted in Planning 0 14

Hi all!!

When is the best time to send save the dates? We haven't for sure decided if we are going to do them or not, but if we do, when should we? TheKnot told me to do it next month for Oct 2020 wedding. I feel like that is really early. We only have 1 couple that is coming from out of town and she already has it on the calendar. Thoughts?

6-8 months before the wedding is ideal, sending them next month would be a little early like you said. Especially because you don't have a lot of out of town guests!

I think because you don't have many out of town guests 6-8 months would be fine. We sent ours out end of October, but we have a lot of out of town/ out of state guests that need to make travel arrangements so for us it made sense.

Honestly, I wish we would've just saved the money and not sent them out. We sent over 250 and they were all to our close friends, family, and co workers who already knew about the date. But it is a cute and fun thing to do!! We sent ours out about 6 months before.

We sent ours about 8 months before! If you really feel like you should sooner, wait until after the holidays to send them, but order them during the holiday sales to save a bundle on them! Smiley smile

My wedding is also in October but 2021. I plane to send save the dates out October 2020 because you never know when people are planning vacations & other things so i believe you should give them time. But if they already know then you don't need to send them that early wait at least 5/6 months

I plan on sending mine around 10-12 months in advance because *most* people have to travel (our families are on opposite sides of the country) and my family takes FOREVER to plan things.

I think if you don't have many people from out of state then 8 months before is sufficient.

I agree. I’m getting married December 2020 and i just sent out some save the dates to out of state family members because like you said you don’t know and especially since my wedding a a week before Xmas it’s going to be pricey for them to travel and they need to buy tickets as early as possible so it’ll be cheaper

I sent my save the date cards out a year on advance because my wedding is Auguste 1st 2020. The reason I sent mine so early is because we have family coming from all over and wanted to give them time to plan and take that time off work and ECT...I'm sending my invations out January 2020. I would say the sooner the better

We sent our save the dates out in October and our wedding is June 2020. 6-8 months is a good time frame.

We sent ours 10 months out because we had so many guests coming in from out of state.

We’re getting married October 2020 as well and just sent save the dates today! Majority of our guests are traveling from out side the state as well as outside of the country. We wanted to put it on their radar as soon as we could so they have time to plan and save!

I have not sent mine out yet and i get married October 2020. I don't have family traveling outside of states and neither does my FH. I was thinking of sending them out around March or April 2020.
