Okay EVITES are one thing, FACEBOOK Is a whole different ballgame.
i got an “evite” save the date once, it was an email via Paperless Post that was very classy and also had a place for everyone to input their addresses. It felt smart and practical versus cheap. Facebook messages or events don’t have that same...feel. Also not everyone is on or goes on their facebooks so it’s not a great way to meet the masses

Skip STDs- they aren’t necessary. Also skip the Facebook invite/STD. Those are for more casual events (family BBQ, children’s birthdays, girls night etc). Your wedding is not an every day occurance.

Personally I have no problem with proper evites. Alternatively you could just send an email or call your VIPs to let them know the date.

    Definitely no Facebook though

It's your wedding, always do what's best for you. You don't have to send out STD's. Esp on a budget invitations should suffice!

My husband's brother got engaged last January and got married in May. They did an email STD in Feb and invites in late March. I thought an email STD was a little weird, but it did serve the purpose of getting the date out to their families and friends!

I also received a STD via Facebook event once -- the couple knew there was going to be a large music festival in the city on the weekend of their wedding, and wanted to make sure people could book hotels before prices went up (based on when the lineup was released). Again -- a little weird to me, but got the job done!

I personally have no issue with evites but you have to decide if your guests turning up their nose will bother you. We had a 12 month engagement and sent invitations 6 months out. When we got engaged we let our friends know in person or via text and told our families at Thanksgiving to keep our September date open. It worked except we had to make sure that a friend's September wedding booked after ours didn't create any conflict.

STDs aren’t really necessary unless you have a large number of OOT guests, or a DW. if you feel you HAVE to do something, an evite is preferable to a Facebook event.

We had a very short engagement and a lot of OOT guests. We sent out STDs via Paperless Post. They were classy and we used one of the pictures from our engagement. There’s a button for all recipients to send you their physical address. I think over 75% gave us their addresses this way. Also, it will tell you who opened up your email and I think all by 2 people opened up the email within the first week so it was an easy way to get the word out fast. I wouldn’t recommend doing Facebook STDs, though. When it came time to do invites, we had all the addresses we needed and mailed formal invites.
