Save the dates or Invitations.

Kennedy, on September 4, 2019 at 8:59 PM Posted in Planning 1 16
What are your thoughts about save the dates and invitations? We're thinking of just sending out an invitation, only to save some money in the budget. Trying to decide if they both are necessary or just a way to spend more.

Save the dates aren't necessary. You can definitely skip them if you want. You can also snag some great deals online if you do want them. I got 100 save the date magnets from Vistaprint last year for around $60 during Cyber Monday.

Save the dates aren’t a necessity unless you’re having a destination wedding, lots of out of town guests, or a weekday wedding.

Our wedding for about half of our invited guests, so we’re sending out save the dates. We also moved up our wedding date by several months and we want people to have enough notice

I just bought a Groupon to do STD cards. $20 for 80 cards, which will work for our 140ish guest count since only 1 per house. I calculated out the exact cost per card with a stamp and it'll be $. 84 pp. That seemed like a good enough deal but me.

I'm viewing it more as "address practice" than advance notice. That way the bounce backs can be corrected over the next 6 months or so.

We are doing both only because ppl are traveling and most needs to put that time In from work and reserve hotel rooms. So we did save the dates and then will follow up with a invitation

We are planning to do it the other way around -- sending out a print Save the Date for folks, and then doing our invitation and RSVP process digitally/online.

I did the same thing, sending invites and having an online source for communications have worked perfectly so far. I only ordered a small size of invites for people whom do not have Facebook and close family members. Hope this helps ☺️

100% agree with this. I’m sending out Save The Dates because I’m having a destination wedding. As long as your wedding and most of your guests are local and your wedding isn’t during a holiday weekend, I don’t think you need to send them.

We were actually getting ready to order save-the-date magnets last weekend, and the FH and I were like do we REALLY need to spend $125 on STDs & postage?? We are having a destination wedding, so the original thought was that we should send them out. In the end, however, we decided they really weren’t necessary. I think most, if not all, our guests are aware of the date and location of our wedding. So we decided on just sending out wedding invitations a bit earlier than the standard 6 weeks, and putting that money toward something else.

I second Vistaprint!!! I love them!! They have been amazing!!! I have messed up a few times (been too excited to make invites and didn’t tout all the info 🙄) and they helped me and got me my stuff very quickly! They also always have deals!

Agreed with all - you don't really need them in most cases, but it's also a fun heads up. We did postcards for save the dates, and a flat card plus a small detail card for our invitations, and did all our rsvps virtually - those combined definitely helped cut back on costs.

This is a great point with the address practice! We did save the dates but we only sent them to for sure guests because I didn’t have our guest just finalized yet. I wish I would have sent them to everyone because when it came time to send invitations I had several sent back to me!

I think just an invite is totally fine! I'd say about half the weddings we are invited to, we get a save the date. We sent them out, we had a ton of out of state guests so we knew they needed advance notice.

I had some, but decided not to send them.

It’s at a good thing too.

Everyone that would’ve received one wouldn’t have been invited.
