Save the dates - How far in advance?

Kathryn, on December 7, 2015 at 5:56 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

How far in advance should save the dates go out? Save the dates were originally planned to go out 2 months and they haven't been sent out yet. I just want to see if I'm freaking out for no reason.

Unless you are having a destination wedding or a majority of your guests are coming from out of town, then it is generally 6-8 months prior to your wedding.

Save the Dates should be sent out 4-6 months before the wedding if the majority of your guests are in town, 6-8 months in advance for mostly out of town guests or a destination wedding!

I sent mine a couple weeks ago for my May wedding. I think they were technically a bit early since they are mostly in town guests, but I wanted to get them out before the holidays.

I think if you send them out right after the new year, it'll be fine. If you send them out now, people might lose them among the Christmas cards they get in the mail. I sent mine out 8 months in advance since we have numerous guests from out-of-state.

We are getting married the week after you and we are mailing out Save the Dates right after the holidays (first week of January).

My wedding is a month before yours and we just sent ours out about 2 weeks ago (about the 7-month mark). I'd say you're fine through mid-January.

We're getting married in October, and I'm planning to send our save the dates in February.

We are getting married on the same day! :o) We sent our save the dates out two weeks before Thanksgiving but that's because we were really excited and some of our guests work weekends and have to put in vacation time by January 1st so we wanted them to be aware of the wedding so that if they want to be there, they can request the day off. But I wouldn't send them now because there is too many Christmas cards being mailed lol. I'd send them out first or second week of January.

Our wedding is July 15th and we sent them out two weeks before Thanksgiving. We actually have a few to send still since people were being difficult with giving us their addresses (Seriously???? How hard is it to give someone an address?). But most people really liked getting them. I personally think it was a great idea sending them before we saw everyone over a holiday, so I don't think there is anything wrong with sending them before Christmas if you want to.
