Save the dates for overseas guests?

Lauren, on May 22, 2018 at 2:49 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
Our wedding will be at the end of August 2019. Many of my guests will be travelling from England, Scotland and Australia. September too early to send out save the dates? Or just send them early to the international guests and send the STDs for guests within the country at a later date?

We have already informed a few who are important to us when our wedding is planned for so they can begin budgeting for the trip over but when should we send them the official save the dates?

I had the exact same situation as you. My whole family lives in England. I treated my wedding more like a destination wedding timeline for invites went. I am getting married in October 2018 and we sent our save the dates in December. So I would suggest October or November. It’s a tricky balance between wanting your traveling guests to have enough time to plan and also not sending it so early that the local guests lose the invite. I actually bought magnet strips and hand applied them to the back of the save the date so that there was a higher chance the invite would go directly on the fridge since we were sending them “early”. Many people commented that the magnet made it handy. Good luck!

Ah that sounds like a great idea with the magnets on the back!! I will try to remember to use that one. Thanks Smiley smile

ALL of our guests are out of town except for one couple. We sent STDs just under 1 year. It also happens to be between holidays, so I always have to ask a year in advance in hopes of getting time off of work for travel.

Shutterfly has STD magnets that we purchased. They were on sale, so not much more than the paper. About $1.00pp. After sale, it was about $0.70pp

Our wedding is July 2019. We have no out of the country guests, but out of 200 guests, 60% are out of state and 20% of the remaining are in state, but out of town. We are sending Save the Dates to out of state guests in August 2018, then everyone else in November/December 2018.

I would just send them all at once. 11-12 months out is fine. If you send them to some family members and not others, the others might wonder why they didn't receive one. I'm also of the opinion that it's never too early to send out STDs as long as you send them to people you are 100% sure about inviting.

We're getting married in October 2018, and I sent our save the dates in February with a formal invitation going out in August/September. Our out of country and state guests already know the main details so they can plan their travel accommodations. And just remember, it takes standard mail about two weeks to go overseas. Smiley smile
