Save the dates, but no invitations

Katie, on March 13, 2018 at 8:40 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17
Hello everyone!

my fiancé and I are trying to save some money, and I had a quick question. Has anyone ever done actual (paper) save the dates, but not a physical invitation? We live and are getting married in Charleston, SC, but both of our families are coming from up North. We wanted to send the save the dates within the next couple months, but thinking of sending a link with our wedding website with the invite and rsvp info right there? Just looking for some advice!

Thanks!

Save The Dates aren't really necessary, but invitations are. Evites are extremely informal. They set the tone for your wedding.

    Is every guest each savvy?

Is every guests going to receive the invite? I've had constant issues with not receiving evites.

Will they check that email, spam folder to ensure they get it?

Again, this is very informal. Why not do Electronic STDs, and paper invites??

I'd do invitations but no save the dates, not the other way around.

I agree with red queen. Invites should be sent.

If you’re trying to save money than skip the save the dates and mail invitations instead. Save the dates aren’t necessary and you can let people know by word of mouth. If you’re worried that invitations will cost more than a STD, you can find great invitations on Etsy. I got 48 invites and rsvp cards for under 100 dollars.

Skip the save the dates. Send the invitations.
If you want to give everyone extra notice of the date and location, send them an email instead if the save the dates.

You absolutely can do that if you want to. Just be prepared to send STD magnets vs paper STD. I'm having a destination wedding and doing Save the Date Magnets instead. Otherwise vistaprint gives out very affordable invitations. Best of luck.

For STDs do email or something save the money there, not with the invitations.

We used paperlesspost save the dates for free. We got 100 invites and 100 business cards used for rsvp info on Vistaprint for $55 on sale 50% off. We have online rsvping and a wedding voicemail that people can rsvp on. There’s ways to make it affordable but you definitely need invitations and not save the dates.

I did Electronic STDs and invites. My FH is a techie, so it fits with our style. We did Mail Chimp for one and Paperless Post for the other, both were free. I definitely preferred Paperless Post (fewer bounces, easier to track). We printed out and sent invites for the two older family members who didn't have email. No regrets

Honestly, invitations really don’t cost that much. Use Vistaprint and look for sales. Skip save the dates and just let everyone know by word of mouth. For a destination wedding invitations are essential. You can do online RSVPs, but there has to be a card with all of the appropriate information.

I agree with do the opposite, no save the dates but yes to invitations. Invites are a way to help you keep track of rsvps as well

My cousin was married last September. They did magnet in the shape of Texas for their STDs and they did not send out invitations. I can tell you that our entire family was a little confused that we didn't get invitations. We had no idea where to go or what time because none of the information was on the STDs. If you would rather do STDs and then do electronic invitations, make sure that everyone you sent out a STD to actually gets the invitations.

We received paper save the dates with link info to wedding online site. we did not rsvp on the wedding site thinking we would receive a paper invite also. then we were prompted by text from a relative of the couple to get the rsvp in on the wedding site...we never asked about paper wedding invitations!! thought it better handled by us that way. the wedding was sweet and good and well attended.

We’ve been invited to weddings where the save the date was verbal (on the phone or word of mouth in person) as is common in our circles, but the invitation was digital. Next to no one showed up because they were waiting for paper invites because they didn’t see the digital as valid/official. Sending a paper save the date with no invitation of any kind following will have the same negative result.
