Save the dates as Christmas/Holiday card/post card a bad idea?

Rae, on October 10, 2017 at 9:21 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

I'm getting my engagement pics done this week and they should be back around November and I'd like to use them as save the dates. Most of the invites are out of town or in different states (one is in a different country). I thought it might be a cute idea to send them as a Holiday post card...if it's not a good idea I can wait until after the new year. No big deal.

I think that's a nice idea but just obviously don't send the postcard to anyone not invited to the wedding. If you are inviting everyone, great. If not, you should send them a different card.

I thought about sending out Christmas cards and adding a small note at the end like "Please save the date for our wedding 11/10/18". It would just be more like a P.S. we're getting married type of thing. However we decided to just wait and send regular save the dates later on. I think the idea is fine but one thing I read on WW was that people typically put Save the Dates on their fridge but people don't want a holiday card on their fridge for 9 months.

Oh yeah this would only go to people who are invited!

Yeah that's a good point about not wanting a holiday card on the fridge...maybe I can just make it a regular save the date...

I would avoid doing a postcard if you have a picture on it. Typically postcards get damaged in the mail, and some people receive it your engagement photo doesn't look that nice anymore.

The other issue is people get inundated with mail during the holiday season. Make sure it pretty clearly says this is a save the date. I typically just threw away all my holiday cards in January. You would hate to have your save the date thrown away but I guess because they just thought it was a holiday card.

One idea I thought about was sending a holiday card with a save the date card inside the holiday card. I also thought about those flat cards and having save the date on the back so they could just flip it over but I worried people would miss it.

I'm a week after you and we also are sending taking pictures this week and working on STDs soon - we just planned to wait until after the holidays to send them because I don't want them to get lost in the shuffle of other cards and such. We're literally going to send them on January 1.

I'd be worried that if you sent everything together that the "save the date" part would get missed. Just my two cents!

I would wait, because then people have to keep a holiday-themed STD on their fridge until next September.

    My favorite STD ever...

No one has to keep anything on their fridge if they don't want to. They can add the date to their calendar on their phone. People who would care about an out of season STD on their fridge, probably wouldn't be putting it on their fridge anyhow.
