Save the dates and invitations?

Kaelyn, on January 25, 2020 at 4:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 18
I am getting married January 2, 2021 and I’ve been reading that because it’s a holiday weekend we should send out save the dates 7 months before the wedding. My fiancé and I have been debating about not doing save the dates at all, so when would be a good time to send out the invitations? I’m afraid of sending them out too early and getting the RSVP’s back and then guests just forgetting (for lack of a better term).

10-12 weeks before the wedding would be good

Invitations should be sent 6-8 weeks ahead of the wedding with a RSVP date a week ahead of when you need your final numbers. Sending invites out any earlier opens up a greater possibility of guests forgetting to send back the RSVP or giving an inaccurate response since they may not know their availability further out.

I think with a holiday weekend, you should definitely do save the dates. If there is anything that makes the date slightly complicated, I would do save the dates. Especially because it's right after Christmas, and people might forget to plan around or budget for the wedding.
I would do the save the dates 6-7 months before and do the invitations 8 weeks before. A wedding website is also a subtle way to remind people. I put it on my bio on my social media accounts and occasionally post the link when I update it. Good luck!

I see you're wearing Bills gear btw! If that's where you're from, I'm also a Buffalo bride! 😊

We won’t be sending out save the dates (for 12 December 2020 wedding) but we will be sending out invites by early September. Our guests will be asked to RSVP by 1 November so we have ample time to chase the non-RSVPers (which I imagine there will be many!) and finalize things.

I think regardless of if we send save the dates or not, we will have to chase non RSVPers as well. I guess as long as we expect it then it’s not too bad. Only thing I’m worried about is there is thanksgiving, Christmas, and new year that all comes so fast I’m not sure what to do

We sent our save the dates out about 10 months prior to the wedding date, our wedding is a destination wedding and about half of our guest lists lives super far. I wanted to give them as much time as they needed to book flights, hotels, and anything they needed to take time off from work. Our invitations we just sent out, so 3 months before the date. Smiley smile

Hiiii we have the same wedding date ! We sent ours out already ! 2 weeks ago exact because we are having a destination wedding and 98% of our guest will be flying in. So to me it all depends on your situation. And yes that’s a holiday weekend so people need to know ASAP. We won’t be sending formal invitations until end of Summer in September. And it works that’s ah for us because STDs were mailed a year out.

Hi!! So exciting!! We are getting married local. The only people traveling are family members like sisters, aunt and uncles so most of them know but those are the ones we are worried about traveling and getting time off

I say start telling them ! If you can do the official STD get it out by Spring ! But they are family so have them start request off. One of my aunt an RN and the other a Manager and they knew our wedding date and put in the time before we mailed out formal std. all the best planning.

I think if we do save the dates we will do end of may to give plenty of time. It’s so hard since it’s a holiday weekend!

Right and that’s why you want to let people know ahead of time to plan accordingly.

I agree with what you've read. Since this will most likely affect people's Christmas and New Year's plans, I'd send them 7-10 months out if you want to have a higher RSVP "yes" count. I'd send out invites 3 months out.
