Save the dates and Invitations not received

Caitlin, on July 6, 2023 at 4:50 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6
I am absolutely livid right now! I just found out that 3 relatives that live out of state never received their Save the Dates or Invitations!! My wedding is 1 month away. I texted them to ask if they could make it and they asked when it was and they never got anything! What on earth do I do??? They live in Texas and I am in Pennsylvania so it’s not like they can just drive up for a night. How on earth do you apologize for such a huge mistake???

I'm not seeing how it's your fault, unless you sent their mail to the wrong address?

All you can do is apologize and give them the information. They can see if they can make it work or not.

I know the addresses were right. I even triple checked because I have such bad anxiety about that kind of stuff. You are totally right though, there really is nothing I can do about it. And if they can make it great, if not oh well. I just feel horrible because my fiancé was so looking forward to seeing these people

You simply say how terribly sorry you are and it would mean more than anything in the world for them to attend. You realize travel plans are pricey last minute. Is there a way to help split travel costs with them or get them sponsored somehow?

And I would verify the addresses you have for them/check with whoever sent the invitations and save the dates out to ensure the addresses were correct.
Poor you — so sorry! That’s stressful I’m sure.

Did you send it through USPS? If so, they’ve been a mess recently. Most likely they will randomly turn up months later. One of our STDs was returned to sender two and a half months after we sent them, and we confirmed with our guest that it was the right address. And average turnaround time on our invitations between us mailing and guests receiving was three weeks, which is ridiculous. The only saving grace for us was that we have a smaller guest list and a quasi destination wedding that has required us to be in contact with our guests throughout the planning process, so we’ve known earlier on who did/didn’t receive everything.

Mail has had problems but it's pretty unusual that both STDs and invitations were lost for three separate guests in TX. Or was this all for the same household? Is it possible that they are lost in a pile somewhere or that considering the distance and apparent budget constraints, could it have been an excuse? All you can do now is share the information. With a month to go there is still a possibility of getting reasonably priced flights.

Apologize for the confusion and give them the information over the phone. Mail gets lost everyday and it’s no one’s fault and no reason to lose your cool.
