Save the Date Magnets

Joelle, on July 13, 2019 at 8:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 25
Has anyone sent out save the date magnets? Is there any issue mailing magnets? Did you have to do anything different in order for them to be sent through USPS. I love the selection and prices on Visaprint, but was just wondering about sending magnets through the mail. Thanks.

I ordered mine through Ann’s bridal bargains. I put a thin piece of bubble wrap in the envelope to keep them from sticking together and mailed them through the post office directly so they wouldn’t get stuck in the mailbox. I also had them weighed to make sure one stamp was enough.

They can be more expensive to mail and you can’t put them in the blue drop off boxes or they’ll stick to the sides.

I figured postage would be more and I would definitely bring them to post office. Just want good tips, suggestions before I invest in them and have any issues.

We just popped ours in the envelope they came with, no extra postage. My mom did say hers stuck to the mailbox though.
I've heard thin sheets of cardstock or something might help alleviate that issue. But that might up the postage price a little if they're rigid.

I did magnet save the dates through Vista print. I put a regular stamp on them and I had no issues with it (they are a thinner magnet). I also put them in those blue drop off mail boxes and everyone received theirs.

We used magnets as our save the dates (standard size) and postage didn't cost extra.

I ordered mine and sent one to an out of state friend to see if it works 🤣
I would suggest thicker envelopes to reduce sticking but I was reading online USPS doesn't like to mail things that can't bend so if the envelope doesn't bend you might need to mail it as a package.
Mine didn't stick the blue box (I heard it go thump on the bottom) but I'll probably only a mail a few at a time to make sure they don't stick to each other.

I bought mine on Etsy. They're wooden so I was afraid of them getting broken.

Just FYI, if you're doing regular magnets and just afraid they might get damaged, you can go into the post office and tell them they are "non machinable" and they will stamp each envelope "Non machinable" which costs nothing extra and means your STDs will be hand processed instead of being run through the machinery.

You can go into the post office and tell them they are non machinable and they will stamp each one so they are hand processed. Had to do this with mine because they are wooden magnets. It doesn't cost anything extra and then you also dont have to pay more to send a "package".

We sent magnet save the dates with no problems. Minted did include a piece of card stock to put in the envelope though so we had no issues with them sticking. We didn’t need to pay extra postage and stuck them in a blue mailbox. Our post office doesn’t offer hand canceling so that wasn’t an option for us.

Unfortunately around here the post office and my work schedule are not friends (it's a problem for getting my passport too 😣).
Hand sorting takes longer and risks nobody hand sorting them, I did mail delivery and know that's how your invites and save the dates go MIA. Definitely get a receipt if you buy the postage at the office for that so you know when you sent them.

I did save the dates from shutterfly and as far as I know everyone got theres! I dropped them off at the post office and made sure I didn't need additional postage before sending them out. I just used a regular stamp and they were good.

I think it of course depends on where you order/how heavy they are. I ordered Etsy (link below). They only needed 1 regular stamp and all of them arrived. Some of the cards they are attached to were a little beat up from travel but not to the point of no return. I was happy overall with the decision to use them. We did take them directly to the post office just to be safe.

I threw an extra stamp on it just to make sure and I ordered extra thick envelopes to keep the magnets from sticking to mail boxes etc. and not getting delivered/seen. Everything appeared to go smooth with the exception of some delivery delays which I am chalking up to sending STDs our in the middle of the Gov't shutdown.
