Save the Date Magnets---Tacky or Useful?

I_Found_Mr_Wright, on September 24, 2011 at 10:52 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

I can't make up my mind if magnet Save the Dates are cheesy or actually a practical idea as guests will most likely stick the magnet on the fridge and therefore always be reminded of your special day. Has anyone else done magnets or feel strongly either way?

Over the past couple of years, we've received a lot of STD magnets. The thing that stinks about them is that they do not stick to stainless steel refrigerators, so we couldn't even use them if we wanted to. For people who do not have stainless appliances, however, I imagine that they would be quite useful.

I have been playing with the idea of doing a magnet with calendar for the year with a picture of Groom & myself from wedding as our thank you cards. I was going to put a little message on there stating thanks for spending our special day with us & now can spend our first year with us (since will have a calendar on it) My Aunt said she liked the idea but think people will be offended because the thank you cards will not be personalized.I like the idea for save the dates because like you said will be on fridge or maybe a filing cabinet if have stainless steel, & will constantly be reminded of it.

I had my std done on magnets and got great feedback from friends and fam. I ordered from magnet street and they turned out adorable!

We did magnets as our STD. Everyone loved them and they really do put them on the fridge. For me personally, I throw out any paper STD cards since I will most likely lose it anyway.

I love the idea of the magnets. I hadn't thought of them at all until I received a Save the date magnet for a friend's wedding this past summer. It was great. The day of the wedding I couldn't remember some important information regarding location and time. I couldn't find my invite and was about to do a minor panic before I remembered the STD on the fridge. I went to it, pulled the website, and got all the info I needed. I loved the magnet and plan on doing the same.

I created save the date magnets for my guests using Vista Print. All of my guests loved them. I have also received STD magnets from friends and I think that they are useful and not at all tacky. In fact, they are probably better bang for your buck because they are less likely to be thrown away/ recycled than your typical paper STDs. Just a thought!

I did the magnets, and I love them!!!! I actually heard from some of the people that they did put them up on there fridges! My fridge of course is covered in them hahahah... When my step sister got married she also did the magnets, and as soon as i got mine on the fridge it went, i think its a great way to remind people that you want them at your special day
