Save the Date - Magnet vs Postcard

caitlin, on October 10, 2017 at 12:49 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 19

Is it tacky to do a postcard "save the date"? I found some on minted that I absolutely love! I originally thought about STD magnets. I am having a hard time choosing.

Or should I just stick with traditional STDs.

The only Save the Dates I've received have all been in a postcard format.

We are going to do the postcards too, I don't think they are tacky.

I like magnets. I wish they'd been in our budget. I think they're super convenient. No one can say they forgot and booked something over your wedding Smiley winking

We did magnets for simplicity reasons. Almost every household can use them on their fridge and are in it frequently as a reminder. Plus, if we spend the money to give to everyone we want it to be useful Smiley smile

I wouldn't do magnets. FH has a friend that sent us a magnet std and since I had never even met him, it was completely weird to have a magnet of his friend and FW on our fridge.

    I like the post cards!

I have gotten a magnet and a postcard. Personally I like the magnets better.

I would rather receive a postcard! I don't have any magnets on my fridge and never plan too because it doesn't go with my modern kitchen lol. Plus a postcard could be framed for people close that want to keep the announcement!

Which btw those std's are so cute!!

One thing I heard about postcards from someone is that some got a little messed up in the mail since they are not in an envelope. My only regret from save the dates is I wish I hadn't spent very much on them.

We did magnets so family and friends could stick them on the fridge.

**you can get magnets without a photo, we did wood carved magnets and it was very inexpensive**

If I was doing them, I would choose postcards. That said, my friend sent out magnets and they were adorable!

I did a postcard. Personally, I think the magnets are a waste of money - I don't want pictures of other people on my fridge and imagine other people don't, either (I didn't do pictures on my postcards) and it will very soon be in the garbage.

I love magnets but I don't think postcards are tacky. My cousin did postcards however and the post office printed the bar code right across their faces!!

Would you send the post cards without an envelope? When I think postcards I think without the envelope, and I know they would get ruined. The mail I receive at my house the envelopes are bent, torn, tattered. I saw pics of people who received my save the dates and the envelopes are so trashed! I'd be worried if the postcard was sent without the envelope

We did a postcard, but it didn't have any pictures of us staring goopily at each other (just not our thing). Our "theme" was a celebration of our hometown, so the picture on the front was an old-timey map of the town, with the particulars (our names, date, etc.) on the back. I actually wound up bookending things by using vintage postcards from our hometown as my alternative to a guest book. AFAIK, everyone got our STD postcard.

    TL/DR: Team postcard!

Thank you all for these great points. The ones from minted have a place to put the stamps so I was thinking just mail without an envelope. I didn't think about them getting damaged. I wasn't really wanting to put our picture on it. I agree the picture thing is weird haha. I was going to include a picture of us with my grandparents, sisters, etc. invitation.

I like magnets, but they would be wasted if sent to me because I can't put them on my fridge (stainless, won't stick, and had cabinets around it so I can't use the sides).
