Save the Date & Invitation etiquette

Stephanie, on January 9, 2023 at 2:05 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

Does the bride or the groom's name come first on the save the date & invitations? I've always seen the brides name first, but my mom said that the grooms comes first.

Honestly you could do it either way. There’s not a proper order of the names. I would do whichever order you guys think has a nice vocal ring to it.

Either way is fine, but traditionally I believe it was the bride's name first.

Back in the days when the bride's family hosted the wedding reception, the brides name came first on the invitation. Actually it was the bride's parent's names.

I think any way you want to do it is fine now.

Traditionally, it was some variation on "[MOB] and [FOB] invite you to the wedding of their daughter, [Bride] to [Groom]." Nowadays since the parents of the bride aren't always the ones footing the bill/ hosting, the "rules" aren't so strict, and you can really put any name first. I had ours list my name first, but that was mostly because I was the one who made them lol.
