Hi ladies!! Has anyone done an on line save the date? I understand this may not be favorable for everyone so for those who are not for it I ask you not respond. I would like to hear from those who have done it and their experiences. I also would like to hear from those who were going to or considering it but decided other wise. An on line save the date would be emailed to everyone and printed for those few without emails.

Thanks Margeret!! I will do some more research on the times of std and invites we got invited to a wedding in Oct and got their std magnet like 2 months ago. The research I did told me 8 months on std 6 months on invites I need the RSVP before 8 weeks before honestly. If u don't RSVP we will call u 2x and if nothing sorry someone else will take ya spot. We are being cut throat about guest list as we have a 2nd batch of ppl we plan to invite if we get declines. We a lot of local guests so those traveling will know if they are coming 5-6 months before esp since its memorial weekend gotta book early for those flight deals

I did consider the e-vite but eventually went with the paper. My reasoning was that I have quite a few people who are not tech savvy and I was worried many wouldn't get the message. As our venue is one that almost everyone is OOT even if it is only by 2 hours, we want to make sure everyone receives their STD. I think if you have a group that will be fine with email then go for it. You can also send out paper to grandparents or anyone who isn't tech savvy if that is a really small list.

If you are trying to keep it low budget you can just skip std. They aren't a requirement just a new fad.

I did exactly what you are describing. as it turned out, pretty much everyone wanted their invites done the same way. I only invited something like 30 people, but everyone that got their invites electronically responded quickly and the only ones I had to track down were the ones that got theirs by paper.

you know your family and friends, if you think they are comfortable with electronic, then I think it's a great idea. it's convenient, it doesn't get tossed aside and lost like some do with paper invites. and my personal favorite is that it doesn't use trees! Smiley smile

I thought about email Save the Dates but I went with the magnet ones. Vistaprint was so affordable, and our formal invitations are not going to be much either since we are going pretty simple with those.

Sakeena, we made our wedding website which included STD's from scratch. If your husband knows HTML and php, he could prob make one too. It does take a lot of time to build from scratch, but if you want to copy our source code that would be fine Smiley smile

We only had to pay for the domain name which is like $10/year.

There are a lot of nice wedding website out there, that you can pay for. We found a few sites we liked, and use it as a outline to create our site. I can't remember our favourite one though...

Also, if you decide to do STD magnets, a friend of ours did a reg STD card and glued on two smaller magnet strips to the back. Not sure what the cost difference is, but that's a nice way to do a modified magnet STD..

Sorry if I misunderstood, but since it looks like you are considering magnets I'll tell you this: I got 100 STD postcards from vistaprint for $22 plus about $24 postage.

We did an online save the date. we really just sent them via text/fb/email whichever people were most comfortable with. we got responses from everyone because we sent them based on our most common mode of communication with each guest. What we had was just basically an image (jpg) and sent that to everyone. we didn't have a lot of time so we had to send them ASAP (we're only having a 4.5 month engagement).

Personal preference, but I received a STD through email and found it tacky, especially since they used a website that specialized in evites, paid for the design it wanted and it still went to my junk mail.

Email evites and electronic std maybe be considered tacky to some, but it was just a matter of time when Cash bars were considered completely taboo as well as many do it.

Margaret: people really forgot about the STD that were electronically sent?

to me and people I know it works better because they send the info to their electronic calendars. but then people I know live and die by their emails and electronic calendars, so I guess everyone is different.

Hi! We are in the age of technology and I found that e-STDs were great. We created ours via paperless post and sent them out. Our guests loved them! We printed a handful (<8) for our grandparents and older guests. We featured a link to our wedding website (created here on wedding wire). The benefit for us sending the e-STDs is it enabled us to request updated mailing addresses. We sent our traditional (paper) invites and requested electronic RSVPs (also via wedding wire). The RSVPs are collected online and I can export and send to my MOH who is doing our seating arrangements and also keeping up with our guest list. My ultimate advice is go for what makes you feel most comfortable, understand that some will not agree, but this is your day and that's all that matters. Happy Planning!! :-)

We shall see how this all pans out. I plan to price out on vista and if I can get them cheap we will do them. Right now it is all about the budget so if we can do STD and invites all in budget we will do them. I does not have to be a magnet to be honest. I could care less, the FH would prefer a magnet though so I will do my best to give the man would he likes within reason LOL. We decided to price out 3 more companies/websites for std and see. If it keeps us in budget with postage we will do it. If not, then email STD it is and whomever does not care for it can do it their own way for their wedding. LOL Thankfully I am not worried about what ppl with think we they get the STD. Its jus that for me nothing more than "hey, save that date" I will keep you ladies posted and thanks so much for all the replies. It has been soooooooooooooooooooooo helpful you ladies are awesome!!

We aren't doing STDs at all, but I wouldn't mind receiving one through email as a guest. And, yes, check out vistaprint! Their prices are amazing. We saved over $100 on our invitations by switching to them. Smiley smile
