Save The Date - Covid Discretion.

Hey Everyone! We’re getting married 10/16/2021 in MA. I’m trying to stay positive that by this time some of the restrictions will loosen and we may be able to have our wedding.

We are going to be sending our STD’s in February/March to our whole guest list. We know that we likely can’t invite our whole guest list (150) but we wanted to put a COVID disclaimer on the back of our STD. Has anybody else done this? Do you have any suggestions for wording?
Thank you!!

Hi Kristin, this is a good idea. As a recent bride who had to downsize my own wedding, I found people to be very understanding and kind should restrictions change at that time.

There was another forum on here that asked the same thing. And I suggested something on the back along the lines of “In the event of mandatory state regulations, guest list alterations may take place if necessary”. However as mentioned above, guests are very understanding during these uncertain times.

    The above suggestions sound great!

We had sent out our STDs in February of 2020 for an October 2020 wedding. When we had to downsize, we sent "Change of Plans" cards to those who we could no longer invite, and everyone was extremely understanding and supportive.

People are very understanding during these times. Your idea is great to put a disclaimer. The verbiage that Dallas put sounds awesome.

This is a good idea. what we did and send STDs to 50 people only and if things get better closer to May then we'll just send actual invites to more people (supposed to be 120)

I would just wait until it gets a little close and you have a better idea of who you will be inviting. People aren’t planning vacations for the same reason so I don’t think they need 8-9 months notice. That will save you the trouble of having to notify 150 people of changes.

I’m wondering the same thing our wedding is January of 2022 and we were planning on sending STDs in February. Now we’re wondering if we should send them to everyone about 130 people, or do a limited amount then send another batch when restrictions change. In my state we’re currently limited to 25 indoors. Either way I was thinking of sending a card with them that says something along the lines of “While we’re hopeful we’ll be able to celebrate with everyone, we’re carefully monitoring the situation and any updates will be posted on our website”

Make a list of those whom you would absolutely invite no matter what. Whatever number that is with Covid restrictions (some venues have a limit 10-25ish depending on your area) send save the dates to those people only because they will for sure get an invite. The rest can be put on a list to be given a invites that contain a link to a Zoom type viewing without save the dates. Because once a save the date is sent, you cannot backtrack so it's best to send them only to your innermost circle who will make final guest list.
