Save the date chocolate bars

Clarissa, on October 10, 2017 at 3:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

I'm torn on STD. I wanted to do something different and since my family and FH family gets together at least one holiday I was thinking of putting it on a candy bar. It's mostly for oot guest that we only see on holidays. Do I do chocolate or go the traditional route?

The idea of chocolate is cute, but then it's like sending a package to every person instead of regular mail. That will get costly I'm sure. Maybe do a candy bar as your wedding favor.

I think it's unique, but I guess my question is - will you be inviting everyone from this family party to your wedding? If not, I find it rude to hand out STD candy bars to select people at an event like a holiday party.

Simple is best when it comes to STDs--i'd save the candy budget for an edible favour.

I'm not sure mailing chocolate bars is practical (cost of shipping, possibility that the bar would melt or break while being shipped). Are you only handing these out in person? Is everyone that will be present on your guest list? What if someone can't make it this year...will you be stuck having to mail chocolate bars to a few people, anyway? Are you getting together with both your families on the same holiday or are we talking seeing your family at Thanksgiving and his family at Christmas, resulting in one of your families finding out you set a date a whole month before the other (because that would suck, and it's better if everyone gets news like this at pretty much the same time)?

I'd think about all of this very carefully before deciding to do this.

It's a cute idea but a logistical nightmare. In addition to the shipping issue, the STD typically goes on a fridge or message board area in the person's house. I wouldn't put a used candy wrapper on the fridge, so I would probably forget the date anyway.

Unique idea, but I would just stick with the traditional STDs. PPs brought up a good point that most people hang up STDs on their fridge, but people probably won't want to hang up a used candy wrapper.

Omg you would be my favorite person. Just make sure it's not gross chocolate, like what those Easter bunny chocolate figures are made of. Gross.

But um.... have you considered what happens if it melts in transit? How are you planning to package them?

It's a cute idea, but I feel like a chocolate bar could very easily get damaged...or melt...

You don't have to be a strict conformist, but it's just as bad to be "different" simply for the sake of being different. There are often practical reasons that things are typically done in a certain way.

I'm handing them out in person. I figured since my invitations will be either scrolls or a message in a bottle we should do something different.
