Save the Date and Invitation timeline?

SailawaySomppi, on April 8, 2016 at 1:30 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3

So we aren't technically doing a "destination wedding" as we are getting married an hour and a half from home aboard a cruise ship the day it leaves. Our guests will have the option of disembarking the ship after the wedding reception OR sailing with us. I've actually spoken to quite a few people on our guest list and I think we will have a good amount booking the cruise and sailing.

That said, I'm trying to figure out when to send out the Save the Dates and invitiations. The wedding is two years away and I want to give the guests PLENTY of time to book it and pay it off or think about joining us. My thought was sending out the save the dates with our wedding website on it a year and half in advance... so like around October of this year?

My dilemma is that unless they definitely go to the website they may not realize they are invited to cruise as well as there is no room on the save the date for that... so we are putting it on the invitation. So when do I send those out too?

Adding.. I've actually thought about doing the invites a year in advance and send out "reminder of the date" cards about two months before the wedding for those who opted not to cruise... IDK if thats rude or not?

I'm not sure how that would work with RSVP cards etc... the RSVP are really important because I have to give the cruise line every person attendings full legal name and date of birth prior to the wedding.. gosh I hate asking for that on the RSVP

STDs: 1.5 year -6months before. Keep in mind, everyone who receives a StD MUST get an invitation. Reserve them for people who need advance planning (people who need airfare or hotels) and VIPs.

Invitations go out 6-8 weeks before. Most people will have an idea of their schedule by then.

Eta: people will realise that you are not going on a private cruise and can book it if they want.

Thanks!!! So I will wait on the invites then and I do think that'll help with the RSVP situation. As far as the last part...Ive just had people express that they wouldnt want to interfere with our "honeymoon" and its really not like that at all. Im gonna have to modify the save the dates I think...
