"Save the Date" advice!

Eunice, on March 30, 2017 at 2:55 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

I'm needing to get my Save the Dates out soon. Are they supposed to say "rsvp" or should people already know to rsvp? Most that I'm looking at don't have it. Do I have to match my std's to my invitations? I'm getting overwhelmed and don't want to make or assume anything. Do they usually come w envelopes or are those separate? Please help, any advice will be taken. Here is the one I want to go with, minus our last names. (This is just from the web site).

Your save the date doesn't have to match your invitation. Some people will do invitation suites and that will include all your extra information (hotels, directions and the like) Your invitation should include the RSVP, your save the date is just inform people when your big day is Smiley smile . RSVP's vary, some people will request you text, call or email. Traditional RSVP's you will include a pre stamped envelope. Hope that helps! Happy planning Smiley smile

Your save the dates are not suppose to have an RSVP component.

With that said, some people may choose to informally RSVP to you.

STD do not have to match your invitations. They can be completely separate, especially since you are using a picture. If you want them to match, great, if not , no stress. Mine are similar but do not match!

They're not the official invite, so they don't need to say RSVP anywhere. The Save The Date is just to give your guests some notice. They will RSVP to the official invite you will send later.

They don't have to 100% match your invites, but it's nice if they do. IMO, they should at least be similar in "feel" (you wouldn't want to send a formal, classic STD and then a rustic, barn wedding invite).

They should come with envelopes, but I guess it depends where you order them from.

There's no need for an RSVP on the save the date and may actually confuse people. But I would do one that says 'formal invitation to follow' since some people get confused with STD's vs. invitations. They should come with envelopes unless you get magnets or postcards. They don't necessarily have to match the invitations but I personally wouldn't do something totally different than the look of your wedding. But I'm detail-oriented like that.

I did exactly what cat lady said. We had fun save the dates (coasters from wedding paper divas) but will have more formal invitations to follow.

Save the dates don't have an RSVP on them. Those get sent with the wedding invitations.

Your save the dates are something you send out ahead of your wedding so people know not to make plans. Usually they're sent out around 6 months ahead. Although you may hear from some people that they can or can't make it, there is no expectation to rsvp and let you know their decision yet. Most places if you order online (Shutterfly, Vistaprint) will have them come with envelopes.

Your save the dates don't need to match your invitations. If you can get a similar vibe or color, it will make it more cohesive, but again not necessarily. I personally think it's more noticeable to have the invites match the "theme" and feel of your wedding since they are sent out closer to that day. Along with the invites you sent out rsvps with a deadline that your guest will (hopefully) respond. I would recommend having your invite and rsvp "match" or at least not clash since they're sent together

    Hope that helps!

I did electronic std - via Facebook event--- it was only to inform and put it on everyone's radar- especially the folks who will travel- I'm not snail mailing a second std- I'm just going to mail the invite with the rsvp info (rsvp will also be electronic- for everyone's convince I have given them a few options for rsvp)

Nice choice - these will be so cute with your photo on it. PPs already covered the RSVP. Most Save the Dates and invitations are sold with envelopes, but it depends on where you are ordering from. I recommend ordering the envelopes pre-printed with your return address. This way - you only have to write one address on the envelopes, instead of writing yours over and over again, too.

ETA: If you want your Save the Dates to match your wedding invitations, (They do not have to) you can always choose invitations that use the same fonts, or an invitation design that features the chalkboard look.
