So we met with our music director yesterday and long story short, have to rethink our entire processional. I was thinking originally Vivaldi's Winter Largo for the bridesmaids and Ave Maria (Schubert) for me. We're getting married in the Catholic church so there are a lot of rules about what kinds of songs we can use. Music guy pointed out that Ave Maria isn't really a processional...and he's right. He's willing to do it if my heart is really set on it (kinda is, just because I haven't found anything I like better, but I'm open minded).
So here's the dilemma. What other options are there? I grew up playing classical piano, and I love classical music (as does my FH) and we regularly go to the symphony/ballet together. There will be no basic wedding music for us. No Canon. No Ode to Joy. No Jesu Jesu. No Trumpet Voluntary (mostly because that's too stiff and formal for me and reminds me of pomp and circumstance and I'm not the queen). No Here comes the Bride (kind of banned, long story, don't like it anyway). My mom doesn't like the Midsummer wedding march but I kinda do mostly because it's Shakespeare and ballet, two things I like a lot, but it's really more of a recessional.
I think the church would be okay with any classical music (we have a pianist and a flute for musicans so there's that and we can't play recordings). We can do any church song basically, any hymn, and I'm pretty sure any folk song or Irish tune will fly as it's St. Bridget's and is big on Irish (plus our families are both Irish). I don't want words.
Any ideas? Please help.
