Satin vs Polyester vs Taffeta Table Linens: Which fabric are you using?

LanaKane, on July 27, 2017 at 9:58 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 12

FH requested we add table runners to the reception tables to add a pop of color as our venue only provides white or ivory tablecloth. I've been looking online and Satin table runners are much cheaper to purchase than polyester. I was toying with getting polyester to avoid having to iron them.

If you are purchasing or have purchased table runners/tablecloths for your wedding, which fabric did you decide to go with and why?

RANDOM SIDE QUESTION: Does anyone have a quirk about having different texture tablecloth and table runner/napkins?

We used polyester because I liked the look of it best.

I purchased all of the linens we needed because it ended up being the same price as renting, and then after the wedding I sold them for half of what I paid. So if you're not wanting to spend the extra for polyester, you may make it back afterwards if another bride wants to use them.

We had polyester tablecloths, and the table runners were satin for the most part. The "VIP" tables had sequin runners.

We're using satin table runners purchased from tableclothsfactory.com. Only $0.79 each!

@Leah, I never thought about using a sequins runner for VIP tables. Did this include your head table?

@Kris 10, I agree with you. I do prefer the look of polyester as well. The one in the color I want is about $4 per runner compared to $0.79-1.49 for satin which isn't that much of a difference but I was wondering why

I have polyester ivory tablecloths and i am debating about getting satin table runners or polyester.

@Bianca Where did you purchase your sequin tablecloths? I cant find any online that is not more than $20. Looking for a gold sequin table cloth.

Where did you end up ordering your linens from? I'm considering doing this since I've heard it is sometimes cheaper? But then again I've heard the amount of work of cleaning and re-selling can make it not worth it?

    Here is a seamstress' viewpoint:

Taffeta will wrinkle in no time and leave your tables looking a little dishevelled. Also, you will have to listen to napkins and whatnot rustling across the course texture all night and it will drive you insane.

Satin is a good choice IF you are using a higher quality satin like crepe-back or a heavier bridal satin. Cheap satins wrinkle like crazy.

Polyester is usually the way to go. It resists wrinkling pretty well and it can be the most high-fidelity in regards to color (satin and taffeta change with lighting).

Personally, I'm skipping the issue all together and going clothless on the tables. We're having our reception in a pub and want the old-world Irish feel. Luckily our venue has tables and chairs we like the look of.

Sorry for the late reply, why? I’m on this thread in hopes of finding which fabric I should order. Taffeta is in the running.

I think after reading the different descriptions of the fabrics I will move forward with the polyester.
