Santorini Honeymoon

Deanna, on April 26, 2023 at 8:43 AM Posted in Honeymoon 1 6
My husband and I are in the process of planning our delayed honeymoon. At this point we are planning one week in Santorini mid July and the following week in Italy.

Just wanted to follow up and see if there were any Santorini recommendations. We are currently planning to stay in Megalohori at the Marriott Vedema Resort. I am worried that it is too far outside of the area of Santorini with the shops and places to eat. I am panicking and thinking of splitting our trip and booking a few nights in Imerovigli to see the sunsets and water more. Wanted to see if there is any advice.
My husband is responsible for the Italy portion of the trip but will take recommendation for that as well!!

We’re also doing Santorini for part of our honeymoon (and Italy haha). From the research I’ve done so far, it’s small enough that you probably won’t be that far away from any shopping/restaurant district. A common thing to do seems to be the hike from Oia to Fira, which is about a four hour walk if you don’t stop to look at things. There are also buses and car/scooter rentals. But we checked the reviews of the hotels we were looking into to see what people said about how accessible other things are. We’re staying in Imerovigli, but I think as long as you’re in either of those three main hubs, you should find it pretty easy to get around and access things to do. Enjoy!!!

I would recommend splitting time if you are staying a week in Santorini. We went last August and stayed at Vedema for 5 nights. That part of the island was great for relaxing and pool time and wandering the village (make sure you try Mr. Scoop ice cream!). Head's up... there are no real views of the water from the hotel. You overlook vineyards, the property or the village. It's still a beautiful resort though!
We booked a wine tour and catamaran sailing tour and on both we were the last pick up/first drop off which was great! I would recommend both activities.

We regret not staying in Oia or Fira for at least a few nights. The views from the caldera hotels are amazing and we definitely missed out. We went two evenings into those towns... the hotel had a shuttle we could arrange and it was about a 30 minute ride. We did our engagement photos in Oia and then had dinner at the edge of the island for the sunset overlooking the windmills.

Our other night we did dinner at The Athenian House which was much more high-end. They have a prix fixe menu to choose from and the views are amazing.

Let me know if you want more details! I'm happy to share. Also, we researched a ton on SantoriniDave.com - we used his recommendations on meals and activities.

It will be hot. So hot. And sunny. We didn't do the Oia to FIra walk because of the heat and the logistics of having to one city to start then back to the hotel

Thanks so so much for all of the information. Did you book the trips through the resort? Did you enjoy the resort and the amenities?

Who did you use for your engagement photos, I was also thinking of having photos taken.

Appreciate all of your time and information in your response. Looking into Santorinidave now too. We will take any tips you have!!
