Sandals Resorts vs. Secrets Resorts?

Leah, on October 19, 2017 at 9:36 AM Posted in Honeymoon 2 30

We are trying to plan our honeymoon for June 2018, right after our wedding & have been looking at Sandals & Secrets. We are thinking either Jamaica or Mexico, since flights to those locations are a little cheaper than some of the more "exotic" islands. Secrets appears to be more affordable, with similar accommodations, so I was hoping some of you could share your feedback if you have been to either Sandals or Secrets.

Thanks Smiley smile

So the BIGGEST difference here is Secrets is for families and Sandals is for Couples. So it really depends on what you are looking for on your honeymoon. If you don't mind spending time at the pool with little ones all around and its a better deal then go for it. FH and I booked Sandals in St. Lucia! We want a very serene atmosphere with options for excursions and night life when we choose Smiley smile

100% go with the more affordable. We did st Lucia sandals grande June 2017. Waaaaaaay overpriced for an average all inclusive. Only perk was adults only. Everything else I could have gotten cheaper at another all inclusive that didn't have the sandals name.

We went with secrets over sandals. We're going to Montego Bay in January- our travel agent said that the sandals resort is nice, but compared to secrets looks old and when we were going for a swim up room, sandals said we could be on the second floor. Price wise it was only a few hundred dollars cheaper than sandals.

FH and I went with Sandals (Grenada) over Secrets because No Kids was very important to us. We also looked at nearly every All Inclusive resort in the Caribbean (we live in NY and didn't want a flight over 5 hours) and chose the one we did based on amenities and the room itself assuming the inclusions at every resort were going to be relatively the same.

We did Sandals in May. No kids was really important to us for our honeymoon. We found Sandals' prices very reasonable, and our time at the resort was wonderful. We've already booked our return trip for our one year anniversary. 100% recommend.

We're doing Secrets Maroma Beach in Riviera Maya. It's adults only which was an absolute must for us. The reviews are wonderful too! I have always heard that Sandals is super overpriced and I found that to be exactly true after doing my research.

Both Secrets and Sandals are adults-only resorts. When both are in the same destination, go for a Secrets resort. However, if you are seeking specific accommodations like a cottage with your own plunge pool, then Sandals is a better fit for something that.

As a couple people already said both Secrets and Sandals are adults only (some of the Secrets are adjacent to all inclusive resorts like Dreams, which has families and you can go there to eat - one of them has a dolphin habitat that you can check out - as part of your package).

I've been researching both for our honeymoon, and it seems that the Secrets resorts are cheaper than Sandals. I know Sandals offers butler service (if you'd like that). But both have activities on property and excursions. I'd say check out the excursions and activities for both Secrets and Sandals to see what interests you both. My fiance and I like fishing (some Secrets have deep sea fishing and water sports for example).

We haven't been yet, but we're considering either Secrets Playa Mujeres Golf and Spa resort, or Secrets the Vine Cancun. Definitely going for a Preferred room and possibly a swim up room if we go to Playa Mujeres. Smiley smile

We stayed at Secrets Akumal in Riviera Maya and I’m itching to go back! I could go on and on about the resort. There is a turtle sanctuary right off the beach from the resort that you are able to snorkel out to. Adults only. AMAZING food, rooms, and customer service.

My FH and I went through a travel agent and she recommended Couples. Secrets is more family based and having "couples only" was really important to us! For 7 nights with everything included even airfare at Couples Swept Away in Negril, Jamaica is $3900 for both!!!

We went to Secrets Puerto Los Cabos for our honeymoon. It was amazing. It's adults only and has a very relaxed feel. We spent everyday relaxing by the pool. Some of the restaurants do have more formal dress codes so keep that in mind. But most had an option to sit outside with a more relaxed dress code. Not a big deal but something to keep in mind when packing. My cousin has been to Secrets in Jamaica and said it was amazing too.

Hi, just a note... both Secrets and Sandals are adults-only resorts. "Dreams" is the family chain associated with Secrets and "Beaches" is the family chain associated with Sandals. Just sharing info for future use. Smiley smile

We're going to Secrets Punta Cana. It is adjacent to a family-friendly resort, but Secrets is adults-only and sounds like it has plenty to do on-site without needing to go to the family-friendly adjacent property. It's important to us to have at least a few bars and restaurants to choose from on the adults-only property. It also sounds like there are plenty of activities if we decide to participate. One draw for us was the opportunity of a free sailing lesson on a mini-sailboat Hobie Cat.

I heard good things about Secrets Wild Orchid in Jamaica. We have a friend who has been there a few times. I wanted to go somewhere that I hadn't been before though, so Jamaica (and the Bahamas and Cancun) were out.

Secrets is not for families. I know this is a old thread but wanted to make it know for readers as myself. Secrets is couples only.
