Sandals formal dinner attire?

Danielle R., on May 26, 2010 at 6:41 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

Okay, I need your help. My FH and I are taking our honeymoon to the Sandals resort in Ocho Rios. My travel agent said that formal attire for the guys is closed toed shoes, khakis, and golf type shirts. Okay, what in the heck qualifies as a "golf type shirt"? When I hear that, I imagine tacky Hawaiian shirts. Anyone have suggestions?

Any shirt with a collar...being a golf shirt it can be more casual like a polo or a short sleeve button up. And obviously, any button up, collared shirt would do!

Or, if its chilly in the evenings a nice sweater would also be appropiate.

Agree with previous posters...short sleeved polo shirt would be acceptable...they just want to keep the "beachiness" out of the restaurants..i.e. no sleeveless shirts for guys and flip flops.

My travel agent said that as long as you wear a dress/skirt of some sort you'd be fine. I also asked her about shoes because I tend to wear flip flops with my dresses. She said that flip flops/sandals would be fine for females. But I'm also curious... a lot of guys' polo shirts tend to have logos on them. Do you think this would be acceptable?

Oh, and only some of the restaurants are formal attire. Which resort are you staying at? I can look up which restaurants are formal and which ones aren't.

And do you think stripes are okay? Or would they want solid color?

Hey Danielle, I went to the Sandals in Ocho Rios for my first honeymoon. Yeah what everyone else said about the shirt with a collar is pretty much it. They did have a formal night so we dressed up, he was in a button down and tie. The one thing I did learn and wished someone had told me ahead of time was to bring plenty of beach wear and flat shoes. I brought all my high heeled sandals and skirts and tops. Everyone else was in bikini tops, shorts, swimsuit cover ups and flipflops. I will certainly be better prepared for this honeymoon.

Definitely NOT Hawaiian shirts. They do mean "polo" shirts.

Kiera - we're going to the Sandals Grande in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. It's the 2nd cheapest resort Sandals offers. The cheapest one is Carlyle Inn (in Montego Bay I believe). But you do NOT want to go there. It's just a single hotel with a single pool... more like a Super 8 than a resort. So the one in Ocho Rios is the best for the money. It's HUGE! It actually use to be 3 resorts but they combined it into one. So there are 7 main pools, 22 whirlpools, and nearly 100 villa pools. Which means there is a TON to do! They have 11 restaurants to choose from and a friend of mine said that her brother just came back from there and LOVED the food! Plus Dunns River Falls is right there in Ocho Rios and there is a Margaritaville there as well. So if I were to suggest anywhere, that's what I'd tell you.

And to everyone else - thank you for your help!
