San Francisco City Hall Elopement tips/advice

D, on October 14, 2018 at 5:04 PM Posted in California Planning 0 3
Planning on eloping at SF City Hall in January..but I have a couple questions. In regards to the marriage license: I know we can get our license a different day than the ceremony, but can we get our marriage license in another city (in this case Sacramento) and bring it for the ceremony? Or does the license need to be issued by SF city hall? Also, any advice on the best days/times to schedule the ceremony? Thanks everyone ❤️

    Congratulations 🎊🎈🎉🍾 on your engagement.

I would check your state’s laws concerning your questions.

I believe in California you can get the marriage license in any county and then get married in any county. But I would call the clerk to double check.

Hey D!! Welcome to WeddingWire!! Smiley winking

I agree with Kelly. From what I can tell, you can get a marriage license anywhere in the state of California and get married in a different county, so long as it's in California. And you've got to make an appointment to get married in the San Fran city hall. That's different than other places, so I thought it was worth mentioning. Smiley smile

I'm one of those people that likes to get up and get going, so I'd say having an earlier ceremony is better, but that's just me. Are you having anyone accompany you to the city hall? Maybe ask them or ask your FS if they'd like to go out for a celebratory meal afterwards. Or do you plan on heading straight on to your honeymoon and you'd like to use some extra daylight for traveling?
