Sample size too big?

on July 29, 2019 at 1:14 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
I’m interesting in this dress, but it a sample size 10~. I’ll likely be a size too. Is the design simple enough that I might be able to alter it to fit me?

Gorgeous dress, but I have heard that you dont want to size down by more that 2 dress sizes. For example, if you would fit a size 2 dress, then you wouldn't want anything larger then a size 6.

I’ve heard the same :/ Was hoping that I might be able to go for it if the design was simple enough. I’m almost 5’8”, and would be able to fill out the top if that makes any difference

I’m told the UK 12 is a US 6-8, but the measurements look closer to a US 10 😬

I think it's generally unadvisable to size up or down more than two sizes. You can ask the seamstress if you have one

Are you a wedding dress size 2, though? I wear a 0-2 in street clothes but my wedding dress is a 6 and fit with no alterations. Best bet would be looking at the size chart and seeing how off the measurements are.

Good point! I wear the same size in street clothes and according to the measurements of this specific dress, I’d need to have it taken in

    4.5 inches at the bust
4 inches at the waist and
    4 inches at the hip

    that seems more manageable 🤷‍♀️

I would ask a seamstress, I’m sure it’s possible, but going down that many sizes will likely alter they way the dress actually looks.

From experience as someone that has to have theirs taken in 2 dress sizes, it looks like there is texture on the fabric, and the neckline may be a challenge.

That being said, bridal sizes and street sizes are different. I’m a street size 0/2, my dress off the rack is a bridal size 10 that’s being taken in to about a bridal size 6ish.

The communication seemed kind of sketchy with the provider and I don’t want to risk it, so I think I’m just going to stick with the in person bridal appointments I have coming up. Thanks for the comments!

Hi Amanda!! Have you found a similar dress that you love, or have you decided to go for a different style?

I wound up trying a dress in person and loving it! Gave me much more peace of mind than ordering from a place I wasn’t familiar with and hoping I liked it AND stressing about sizing.
