Sample size dresses?

Jillian, on February 9, 2017 at 9:15 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 13

Hi! Snowy Thursday on the east coast. I made an appt for 3/18 to try on wedding dresses. I'm a street size 12/14 and I'm terribly nervous to see if I even fit any bridal gowns. I know they run smaller. The weekend I booked for the appt is the trunk show of the designer I'm looking at. I guess my question is, has anyone had an issue when trying on dresses that are sample size? How are you supposed to get the vision if it doesn't fit? If I order a dress at this trunk show it'll be 20% off but I'm worried even when ordered in my size it wont look right.

They have clips and other tricks to form the dress to your body to show how it will look in your size, They know what they're doing, dont stress it.

I chose a bridal store that has some plus size sample dresses, a friend's aunt went there and is how I heard about it. I normally wear a size 14 and they had some dresses that were too big for me. The ones that were too small they were able to clamp and work some magic. I wouldn't stress too much over it, but maybe call and ask what their sample size range is?

What designer is it? I went this weekend dress shopping and found that Alfred Angelo is pretty true to street size but Allure and Maggie Sottero were much smaller. Any dress I tried on that was smaller they just clipped to my bra. Most of the ones I tried on were too large and they clipped the back.

ETA: I am a street size 6 and somehow they put me in a size 2 mermaid so I wouldn't be worried....they will find a way.

Yes there are things they can do to try and show you what each dress would look like in your correct size...but I know that I gravitated toward the dresses that I tried on in my size. Because I'm not good at imagining/visualizing! It's also a little scary to be paying so much money for something and really just having an idea of what it may look like in your size. I would try going to a bridal store that has a lot of dresses in your size.

I say to keep an open mind and don't be worried! But I would also possibly call and ask how many dresses in your size or larger they carry.

Pickles the designer is Tara Keely. I did call and the sample is a 12 but I heard that's really an 8 lol.

Thanks for making me feel better. Freaking out about it and I want to lose weight as well so I won't even know what size to order.

I'm your same size. 12-14. I was also horribly nervous about how shopping would go given I doubted I'd fit in anything.

I couldn't have been more wrong. The store had sample sizes of dresses. Every dress I tried on was between a size 8 and a size 14. They all fit/zipped and some needed to be clipped or whatever. The consultants know how to adjust dresses so you can tell how they will look when sized properly.

I ended up ordering my dress in the exact size I tried on.

You'll be okay! You are a pretty common size and most dresses are high quality... it's different than prom dress shopping!

    Good luck Smiley smile

I'm a size 8-10 street but a size 14 bridal... they clipped me into a size 6 sample, and it worked beautifully! They have tons of tricks, but most stores carry larger sample sizes, too!

I'm a street size 12 and the first dress I tried on was a sample size and fit me almost perfectly. You never know, don't be too nervous about it!! There was also a dress that wouldn't go past my hips. Your consultant should know what types of dresses will most likely fit you best! ETA: That first dress is the one I went with and because it was a sample, it was half price!

I'm not as small as you... Street size I'm in the 20s. But I was super nervous and was actually surprised at the selections the shops I went to had. You'll be fine, try not to stress over it like I did. Basically I made myself sick with nervousness the week before!

Yeah don't worry too much. They have a lot of magic to show you what it looks like! Plus sample sizes range sizes in stores. Some dresses I could zip and some I couldn't. It all depends. Don't get discouraged or stressed yet!
