Sample sale dress?

Holly, on June 9, 2019 at 9:20 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
Went dress shopping for the first time yesterday and did the thing I said I wasn’t going to do....fall in love with a dress outside my budget Smiley sad

My sister picked it out not knowing the price, and the bridal consultant still put me in it despite knowing my $1,500 budget. It’s something I NEVER would have expected, so she kinda threw it in there as a joke. There was one sample sale dress left in the store, a size 6, for $2,040, plus a 10% discount. If I have to order new, it would be $3,200.

Has anyone here ordered their dress sample sale in a size that’s too big for them? I was told I would be a 0 or 2, so there would have to be quite a lot of alterations done to the 6 to make it fit.

Ugh I’m torn on what to do.

Your alterations will likely be expensive with such a drastic size difference. Please keep that in mind. Maybe you can search on tradesy, poshmark or another second hand site to see if there is a used dress in your size available. If not, consider where in your budget you can save money. Maybe you can have less decor or no videographer, etc. I wouldn't recommend giving your guests less food or drinks in order to afford the dress. Just my thoughts. Good luck!

Thanks! My mom and grandmother are paying for my dress, so it will be enough to cover the sample sale with the discount, and I could probably cover the alterations myself. Just confused whether it’s the right thing to do or not. I actually did find this same dress on a used wedding dress site but it was also a size 6 😩 and agreed, I would never take away from food or drink for my dress. Still feels selfish to cut away from the wedding to make room for my dream dress, because it’s FH’s wedding too. I just feel like any other dress I choose will always fall short of this one.

It's not selfish. The dress is beautiful. Do you have a seamstress in mind? You could call them and ask if they think it would be possible to take the dress in so many sizes. Also ask for an estimate.

Thank you Smiley smile no seamstress in mind but I was wondering if I would be able to basically shop around for a seamstress before buying the dress so I could get some estimates

At least in my area, tons of shops have sample sales throughout the summer. Maybe hold off, call around other places when they are having sales, look on preownedweddingdresses.com or stillwhite.com for something closer to your size (on these sites, lots of people are even selling new). Good luck, the dress is gorgeous on you!!
