Sample sale as a first stop?!

Teresa, on March 30, 2016 at 12:47 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

I have not began any dress shopping and started to browse upcoming trunk shows and sample sales. It seems there is a huge sample sale in NYC which happens to fall on my 30th birthday... I love sales I live for sales my dream is to get a beautiful gown at a steep discount... paying full price or a regular sale price just seems unreasonable to me. But I'm worried starting at a sample sale may not be smart especially because there are no returns. I have no idea what to do.

Mu suggestion would be to try on some dresses beforehand to get an idea of what style/silhouette works best for you. It's my understanding that sample sales can be a little bit of a free for all and you don't have a lot of time to shop. Being prepared should help you!

I agree. Find a few designers and styles/silhouettes you like before hand so you know what to look for at the sample sale. That way if you do find something you love, you won't be asking yourself what if questions!

My dress is a sample, but I bought it online from Your Dream Dress. I probably didn't get as good of a deal, but they have a return policy and I absolutely love my dress (which actually fit freakishly well unaltered).

We went to a BHLDN sample sale as the first stop for my sister's wedding. She ended up buying two dresses at the sale for less than $200 each (I think one was $99 and the other $160?) and then didn't up wearing either. BUT, she sold them on eBay for a profit and it worked out beautifully.

What PPs said, set up some time to try out dresses at a regular boutique to get an idea of what you want. It often happens that you have an idea in your head of exactly what you want, but when you try it on it just doesn't work and you wind up loving a style or silhouette that you NEVER would have considered before. You should have your likes and dislikes based on actually trying things on down before stepping into the free-for-all that can be a sample sale.

    Good luck!

Absolutely go try some dresses on first! Once you find what flatters you, it would be easier to navigate the sample sale. It will save you time too, since you may already have a dress in mind to buy.

Go to David's bridal to figure out what TYPE of dress you want, then go the sample sale or to boutiques... That's what I did, and found my dress at a cute boutique after I drove the David's bridal clerk bananas

Thanks for the advice. I am probably going to stop by David's bridal this weekend and attempt to figure out what style I like on my body. I really can't see myself buying a dress that's not on a ridiculous sale. I feel like I will glow that much more lol
