Sample dress sizes?

Becca, on October 9, 2020 at 8:47 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
Hey everybody, I know I’m not the only one out there who just doesn’t fit into sample size wedding dresses. I’m in between, too large for regular sizing and too small for plus size. So frustrating!

Basically, did anybody out there decide on their dress even though it really didn’t fit you when you tried it on? I had one of my bridesmaids also try it on for me so I could see how it looked like on a person and not just a mannequin (she gracefully obliged). If so, what was your thought process behind pulling the trigger?
I absolutely love this dress and I think it’s the one, but there’s that slight bit of doubt just because I couldn’t see how I would look at every angle... gah!

Yes! I was in between. I’m smaller at the top but very hippy on the bottom. They did the best they could but I loved the dress (from what I saw) i even tried on a different color because they didn’t have it in white like i wanted. I see the dress in catalogs sometimes & get excited about it so I know I made the right decision. My suggestion is to go with your gut. & really trust the seamstress!

The sample dresses at Lily's Bridal (the shop I got my dress from) were either too small or too big. The consultant zipped me up as much as she could or added pins. I decided on my dress when the zipper didn't even go all the way up. I just fell in love with it. Several months later I went in to order my dress, I tried on the sample and it actually fit (I lost weight). Not only could I see what how I was supposed to look like in it, but it solidified my decision. Hope this helps!

I bought my dress knowing it wasn’t zipping all the way and even when it did, it squished my back. My thought process was I can lose weight(which didn’t happen) so I had to get it let outSample dress sizes? 1

The first 2 pictures you can see the dress didn’t zip and how it squished my back. The last picture is obviously it opened up.

The sample dress I tried on was too small and didn't zip up all the way. After I ordered the dress I looked up pictures of the back to send to my moh and it was a surprise! I had looked at the back of the dress on the hanger obviously but it looked different on someone than I imagined. Luckily, I liked most of the back and the parts I didn't like the store assured me I could change during alterations. If you've already seen it on you and on your friend and still love it you should be okay!

I bought my dress even though I tried on a plus size (18!) sample and I’m a size 2! I’m so glad I did though, because I couldn’t find anything I liked and was in tears until my mother had the idea to ask my stylist to check in plus sizes. My dress is PERFECT for me. That being said, I tried on a lot of styles I thought I would love but I absolutely didn’t have the body shape for, so if possible try to get the closest to your size you can and ask your seamstress/ stylist to pin and do the best she can to make the image as realistic as possible!

Thank you all so much for your responses! They definitely make me feel more certain about how I feel. I guess I should have attached photos that would have been helpful so maybe you can see the conundrum a bit more. Here’s me with the back and front and then my friend for a better visualization of the front! It’s a sample from Etsy so it’s in my friends apartment haha

I didn't even try mine on. I fell in love with a picture, knowing in my heart it wouldn't look the same on me that it did on the model, but I went for it, used my largest measurement to select the size and im putting all my faith in a seamstress 😉 alterations start 10/21 for my Valentines day wedding. 🤞 here's hoping all goes well.

Like others have said, go with your gut and find a good seamstress who understands what you're trying to fix. 🤗 you've got this.

I was surprised many boutiques don’t carry sample 4 or smaller. I only tried size 6-14. The dress I chose was size 6 or 8, but they told me to order size 4 instead of size 00, because of my cup size, and said the seamstress can easily make it everything smaller and shorter. I can’t count how many clips they used to let me try the dresses. The back of the dress look ridiculous with dozen of clips 🤣

When I tried on my dress it was a little big in the cup and straps but fit great otherwise. They said when my dress came in it would fit tighter than the sample I tried on. It did and now I'm worried I won't fit in it on my big day. It fit when it came in just super tight. You can see the clips on the back. That's really the only alteration I need done besides adding a bustle. I still think it's perfect and such a gorgeous dress. That was the day I found the one.Sample dress sizes? 7
