Salvaging Our Honeymoon

Rachel, on July 15, 2020 at 10:25 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 13

Hi Everyone!

My fiance and I are hopefully getting married on August 16, despite COVID deterring our plans. Ideally, we would like to leave for our honeymoon the following day. We booked a beautiful Hawaiian honeymoon, but unfortunately have to postpone that trip until next summer now. Although our wedding and honeymoon will look different than we originally planned, we are still hoping to get away for a few weeks after getting married. We live in NJ, so there are currently 22 states that are off limits to us, or we will have to quarantine for 2 weeks after returning. Does anyone have any recommendations on places to visit? I'd prefer to drive rather than fly as I am immune compromised. We are beach people, so that's at the top of our list. We are also open to going a few places since we hope to go away for two weeks. Our budget for hotels is around $4,000. Unfortunately, a large chunk of money is wrapped up in our postponed Hawaiian honeymoon, so we have to work with a smaller number. Any and all advice would be appreciated! Thank you!

Have you considered Canada? Is it a drive from NJ? It's a short flight for sure. Toronto is awesome.

Canada is closed to the US as of now, so I don't think that would work.

Have you looked into somewhere on the Jersey shore? Maybe on LBI or something. Also, the fingers lakes, Lake George, Long Island, or other places in NY may also be good options for swimming.

Canada is not allowing People in unless it is essential travel. There is a strict 2 week mandatory quarantine upon arrival into Canada as well. I would not be countIng on the borders between Canada and USA being open for travel/tourist anytime soon.

Truthfully I haven't been paying attention to travel hahaha. The only place I've somewhat been considering is where we're having our honeymoon but I figured maybe they had lifted their border but I guess not hahaha.

Maybe some of the beaches in pennsylvania or delaware? I would say further south but that would be covid dense areas

Are you allowed to go to Rhode Island? They have beautiful beach towns. From there, you could go to Cape Cod, then to Lake Winnepesauke in NH, then to Maine--all wonderful, beachy summer destinations that totally won't break the bank and are a doable drive from NJ. A New England road trip!

We live in NY and are having our mini wedding in PA tomorrow. We're driving to Maine on Saturday and it's about a 7.5 hour drive from PA. There are beaches and lakes and lobster rolls 😋

I don't know which states you can and can't travel to, but consider finding a lake instead of an ocean to get that beach feel. There are many beautiful lakes across the country, and I'm sure you can find one where you're able to travel. Also, lake doesn't automatically equal cabin if that's not your thing. (It isn't mine, lol.) If the lake is big enough, you may not even see the other side, which also helps with the beachy feel.

Hahaha, sadly there IS NO BEACHES in Pennsylvania... we all go to the Jersey shore ...if those of us in PA want a close beach trip we go Maryland or New Jersey, MAYBE Virginia

I would echo the Maine suggestions! I grew up there and it’s absolutely gorgeous. I’m doing my one year vow renewal/reception at the black point inn in Scarborough, Maine—you should check it out! It only has 25 rooms and they have a heated pool. For something warmer, maybe the outer banks in NC? Not sure of the 22 states allowed.

Last I heard Maine is requiring a 14 day quarantine for visitors except a few states. So definitely check in on that before you book. Renting a air bnb on Cape Cod could be a great idea, Niagara Falls (US side), Virginia Beach, Rhode Island Beaches.
