Salutation Etiquette

Emily, on March 22, 2019 at 11:37 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

I'm getting ready to send out invitations for my wedding and I had a question about how to address the envelopes to include "and guest". I've seen a lot of answers suggesting putting the "and guest" on the inner envelope or even filling in the rsvp with "and guest". The question I have is, what do you do when you don't have an inner envelope and you are doing online rsvp? With online rsvp you have to input each guest individually. My initial thought was to put the guest in "Jane Doe" and then include their plus one as "Guest Doe" so they can see that they have a plus one when they go to rsvp. Should I also include "and guest" on the wedding invitation?

Hello! i was wondering the same thing. we are doing online rsvp only.

I guess i would put "and guest" on the envelope. If they happen to not see the guest on the rsvp website or they dont end up rsvping yes or no for the guest, i guess i would eventually just call them and ask who is coming.

the only thing with rsvping online, when you give someone a plus one, i dont see a section that the guest can send a message with the plus ones name?

I wrote and guest on the envelope. Also on my guest list I wrote the name as First Name: Plus Last Name: One instead of something like Guest Doe.

Just address it to "Jane Doe and Guest" on the envelope. If they don't know until they go on the website, they may assume they don't have one and then find out later.

I did not include "guest" on the envelopes but we do have a "we have reserved seats in your honor" with a place to add names. I have the online RSVP set up too but I know not many will be using it. For that, I used "Guest ***" with the last name of the person we knew just to keep things linked easier. If anyone with a "guest" does use the online option I will probably just reach out shortly before the wedding to ask what that person's name is for the place cards.

I wrote "Ms. _______ (and Guest)" on my envelopes. I didn't have inner envelopes. And then my RSVPs are done online, so I did the same thing so they could RSVP for themselves and their guest. And they also have the option to edit the names so we know the guest's name.

I think I’m going to do “Ms. Jane Doe (+1)” on envelopes. I hate that it’s soo complicated figuring this stuff out. Most of my plus one guests are young and don’t care about wording etiquette and probably won’t know the difference.
