Said Yes to the Dress but now what do I buy? Shapewear vs. Corset

Joanna G, on September 29, 2012 at 2:07 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

I'm sure that both of these choices will be somewhat uncomfortable but I would love to hear your input. My dress is a sweetheart, satin ruched gown and luckily very flattering. I'm petite and small busted. I don't want the girls falling out but would love just a tiny push up there, since I have the Latin booty... look out J-Lo.

So my question: Shapewear or corset?

Here's a picture of me in my gown, this is one is a bigger size (they didn't have my size) and I'm wearing a corset from the store but that boning hurt!

If you are small busted, ask about having push-up cups sewn right into your dress, or just get a regular push-up strapless bra. Much more comfortable than a corset or shapewear, and you really want to be comfortable on your wedding day! I am of the medium-busted variety, and all I wore under my dress was a regular strapless bra (no push-up for me). I was much more comfortable, and, because my dress was altered to fit me properly, I had no issues with the bra or the dress all night, even while dancing for several hours!

    P.S. your dress is gorgeous!

Thank you! So happy you like my dress, it was the 2nd one I tried on but I loved it! I get to pick it up this weekend Smiley smile strapless bra? That's a good idea... Just need one that doesn't keep riding down. I guess that's why you said that thy need to alter my dress correctly.

I think with your shape (lovely!) and the ruching you don't really need either-- I would just go with the pushup bra

it probably won't be cheap (like $50-75) but it will be less than the corset

get professionally fitted before you buy (try a big dept store, special lingerie store or VS) and make sure you bring it to your fittings

VS doesn't fit bras correctly just saying. by their formula (adding 4-5 in to ribcage measurement) you end up with a huge band that won't stay up, and not enough cup. Shockingly enough, JCPenny is a great place to get measured for a bra (yes, I've been known to take my measurements from JCP and buy from VS or other lol)

It's up to you! If you aren't changing dresses before going to your hotel or post-reception getaway area, I would do a fun corset underneath.

VS makes a bra that makes you two cup sizes bigger. haha I keep saying that is the one I need just to hold my dress out. My dress has boning. My mom has a body shaper and it is high waisted so she said get a strapless bra and put the body shaper under the bottom band of the bra. She got hers at Target and it is their brand. Your dress looks amazing so I am sure the one in your size will fit you much better. I would not chose either one until you can try on your actual dress to see if you need anything other than maybe a bra.

I did the corset and it definitely helped pull things in and puch things up. I liked it

Maybe if your are "small busted" the shapeware will look fine for you but that stuff never seems to work that great for me.

Good luck. I know you will look great and the dress is beautiful. Good choice.

Your dress is beautiful on you and you could do so many different things with your dress and it really depends on what you are most comfortable with really. You could do as some have suggested and have the cups sewn right in - which is actually probably the easiest way to go.

But if you're like some of us... I prefer a corset I have a goregous white or purple - haven't decided yet - that I will be wearing under my dress. But I have been wearing corsets for years and have had them properly fitted.

Longline bras could be uncomfortable and hot.

But see which works best with your dress before making any decision.

I would say a push up bra or fake boobs...lol....if you never worn a corset besides today you will be hurting....you need to do corset training to wear it all day....i love corset and have alot of them but they are not the most comfortable thing.
