Rush order of BM dresses???

Colleen, on January 25, 2012 at 11:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

So I've been a bit late in the game with all of my planning, but I'll only talk about dress stuff for now. First of all, it took me a good 3 1/2 months to find my wedding gown (which I still feel iffy about...I love the style, but the quality just seems subpar), and I didn't receive it from David's Bridal until right after Thanksgiving. Then I looked for bridesmaids dresses for a month or so (even around the holidays) and found a Bill Levkoff dress the first weekend in January. I immediately let my BM's know to go get their measurements and apologized for only having about a month to get this done since they require 3-4 months (for pretty basic dresses? please) to get. Today I find out from the first bridesmaid who orders that they want to charge us a $60 rush fee if we don't order them all by Sunday!!!!! There's like 19 weeks until my wedding. Is this necessary?? Some of my bridesmaids are saying it's going to push the expenses almost ot the point of bowing out. I'm furious!

I'm getting married the same day as you, and for my BMs' dresses, the consultants said the girls had to order by the end of this month to guarantee the dresses all come in time. I was forced to give my BMs only ~2 weeks notice to order, which I felt really bad about, but they all agreed to call their orders in before 1/31.

Hopefully you can get all your BMs to order by Sunday to avoid that rush fee because you will probably run into that same issue if you choose to go with another store because 3-4 months time to order BMs dresses is pretty standard.

Sorry you didn't ask the store before you left that day, but unfortunately, yes, that sounds about right. Good Luck. I hope they can all get to the store in time.

Actually, I did ask them and they either said 3-4 months or 12-14 weeks. Meanwhile, everyone's telling me they almost always come sooner than expected. I told my bridesmaids to get their measurements done by the end of the month...I guess Sunday is close to the date I said (I WAS getting impatient that nobody was doing it and had to remind them again a week or so ago). So maybe it's misplaced anger, but I also didn't know rush charges were so expensive! The salon's inconsistent answers (first they said $60/dress, then $40/dress but they don't think there will be charges..huh?) and excuse of the Chinese New Year shutting down the factory for 3 weeks sounded a little fishy, too.

Well I'm sorry my bridesmaids JUST put their order in at the END of November, and my wedding is in March! It was late but they didn't have to pay a rush fee!

Ok... Well, that sucks that you were told two different cut off dates for the rush fee.

    THAT I would complain about.

But, I have heard the factory shutting down for the Chinese New Year... so that is not an excuse. Kinda like how things shut down here for Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving.

3 weeks... I didn't know it was that long.... but yes, I remember hearing almost this same complaint last year on WW.

    * first day of Chinese New Year 2012 will be celebrated on Monday, 23 January 2012, and the festival will usually last for as long as 15 days, till the 6 February 2012. *

So, it is at Least 2 weeks. ~ Good luck ~

Ugh...I wish they had warned me about that in the first place. I didn't know it was coming from China until yesterday. And I wish they had actually given me a cut off date because they didn't...they just gave me an approximate time frame. Well, thanks for all the feedback. I guess what happens, happens. I'm starting to learn to roll with disappointment and chaos in this whole wedding planning experience. lol

@Melanie, I'm glad you were lucky enough to have no rush fee! Here I am at 4 1/2 months to go, so maybe I'll get lucky, too.

Hmm...I saw things on google that said the New Year celebration used to last much longer and now it's 3-5 days instead of 3 or 4 weeks.

    Oh well..
