Rude to ask photographer to re-do album?

mrswinteriscoming, on April 7, 2022 at 1:16 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 7
We paid $1500 to have our photographer make our wedding photo album because we wanted to ensure the best printing quality and that was something we knew we had to go professional for to have a long lasting album.
I recently put together more affordable albums for my family and my husband's family and today I got the proof album back from our photographer and I hate it.
Amongst other things, having just gone through all the photos myself for the albums I prepared, I feel like there are some photos used which I would rather have swapped out for another photo, and then I feel like the placement of black and white photos is odd (i.e. on one spread there are 5 colour photos and 1 black and white and it looks out of place).
Would it be rude of me to ask him to re-do it or to ask if I can prepare the mockup myself?

I don't think it's rude to ask for a re-do and to explain what you are looking for. He may think it looks great but it is not what you want you shouldn't have to pay $1500 for it. All you can do is ask and if he says no then you take it from there Smiley smile

Very similar situation with us! I wasn't fond of our photographer's proof for our album and I literally redid the entire mockup. I used some of the layouts she provided but switched up the order and the choice of photos on nearly every spread. Our photographer was fine with it. The way I see it, I knew what I wanted and because I was paying 4 figures for an album, I wanted that control over the spreads. I would definitely reach out to your photographer!

As long as it’s worded properly, I don’t think that would be rude at all. You’re spending a great deal of money on it, so you deserve to get something you love. Plus, the reason they send you a proof is to make sure you like it before it goes into production

$1500 is a lot of money, and you definitely deserve what you want. I would definitely talk to the photographer about changing it up and I would request another proof after to make sure you like it.

It's not rude at all! Isn't that why they sent you the proof album to review? We swapped out a number of photos included in our original mock-up, and we redesigned one page completely. I think they are probably used to that feedback. You want a product that you love!

I think you’re totally fine to ask for what you want, as everyone said that’s a lot of money. I hope it turns out ok for you!

Not rude at all - its the reason they send proofs before printing! There's nothing wrong with, respectfully, asking for what you want.

I struggle with this too. I felt like an awful person for going back to our designer on our invites because we didn't like the fonts. She was completely fine with it and had us actually go and pick out the fonts ourselves so that we would get what we wanted! You're paying for a service, and you should be satisfied with it. You're paying a LOT for it too, so you should get what you want.

Just be polite about it and it'll be fine!
