Rsvps

Ally, on October 25, 2019 at 10:56 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10
Currently working on deciding how to have my guests RSVP. I was originally going to include RSVP cards with prepaid postage in my invitations but from what I’ve heard people often don’t send those back. I don’t want to do only online RSVPs because we have several family members that don’t have computers and aren’t tech savvy so I thought about having our wedding website printed at the bottom of the RSVP card where they can have the option to RSVP online if they don’t want to send the card back. Has anyone ever done both and how did it go??

I did both. I got more response online that I did with the ones I mailed. I mailed out 70 and got back 7, and one wasn't until after the wedding and had no name on it

48 replied online they were coming. It helped out a lot. The ones who did send them back by mail were ones who don't have computers or phones with internet access.

I would do online RSVPs with a link at the bottom of the invitation, and only include prepaid RSVP cards for those who aren’t tech savvy.

We did only online RSVPs and said: “please rsvp on our website (website link). If you have difficulty using the website, you can reach us at (email address) or (phone number).”

The few older guests who weren’t tech savvy simply called. None called me even actually hahah, one was my grandma’s 86 year old brother who just told my grandma that he was coming. A couple other guests (mom’s friends) just RSVPd by calling my mom 🤷🏻‍♀️

But honestly out of our 147 invitees, I think we had about a dozen that didn’t RSVP at all (though I don’t think they would’ve been more inclined to with a paper RSVP either) and like, maybe 3 or 4 that had website trouble and RSVPd on the phone? So it definitely wasn’t worth the hassle or expense of the paper RSVP for us!

We did only mail-in RSVPs with pre-paid postage. Most people mailed them back. I invited 150 people. I maybe lost about $5 in unused postage. A close family friend did online RSVPs for anyone under a certain age and RSVP cards for anyone over a certain age. My whole family was invited so my parents got an RSVP card, while my husband and I and my brother and his gf didn't, so they did it as a generational thing. I think that may be a happy medium.

I'm doing online only using our WW website because not only does it save money, but it's also more eco-friendly. I'm putting the link on our invitations along with my phone number in case they have difficulties. I'm also including a small piece of paper with the website listed again and then I even put the QR code on it (I'm using VistaPrint for my invitations and when editing an invitation, you can click "more" and there's a QR code option. I just screenshotted that and pasted it the small paper I'll be printing, lol).

If you do decide to go with mail-in, I suggest you use a black light pen and number all of them on the back or on the return envelope! It helps sooo much for those that reply without a name!

You can certainly do both! Maybe send reply cards with postage for those you are certain will send them back and don't include postage for younger people you think might not send them in anyway?
