Rsvps

Chelsea, on May 4, 2021 at 1:02 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

Do RSVPs tend to come back closer to the deadline? I'm the type of person who responds the day I get the invitation, haha!

Our Save the Dates went out in November and invitations went out last Monday. They're due on May 15th. They are online-only RSVPs. Out of 120 guests, I've only received 13 replies!

Many people will send them in the last day. Others will not return them at all. You don’t contact anyone until the day after the due date and track down anyone who has not responded.

Good to know. I hadn't planned on contacting anyone just yet. Although I did for some of my bridesmaids because two of them hadn't responded. I was able to do so jokingly!

The vast majority of people will out in their RSVP May 15th. Most people procrastinate on things, and with Covid, people I think keep waiting to figure out what is going on since the situation is always changing.

For your attendants, it’s expected they will show up so their invites are more ceremonial for keepsakes.

Some brides on the forum have mentioned sending reminder notices but those tend to backfire rather than helping.

Also, employers and schools do not give final schedules with time off before 4 weeks.

It’s possible they haven’t received the invitation yet. Snail mail (lol) can take a week to a week and a half to arrive. Then there’s the people that don’t check their mailboxes often (like my coworker who had a save the date in her mailbox for a month before finding out!).

I just needed those two primarily for their meal choice! I'm a teacher and we get out of school before the end of May here.

In my experience, we had about half RSVP right away and the rest came within 1 week of the RSVP deadline.

Wait til at least a few days after deadline to say anything to people. Tons of people drop them in the mail on the deadline date.

I hadn't planned on it! I just didn't realize so many people would wait haha. They're online-only RSVPs too, so they don't need to be mailed in.

I mailed my invites in snail mail and online only RSVP as well. I followed up with everyone afterwards and shared the link to the website for RSVP. Every one I reached out with the link, completed rsvp within minutes. Perhaps try that?

My future mother in law requested off for our beach trip in June in December and they approved it in January. So a lot of employers can actually approve time off months in advance. I also got approved for a week off at a previous employer three months in advance. I think sometimes people just procrastinate to procrastinate haha

I already put mine in for our wedding in Oct 2022. Our system goes pretty far thankfully.
However, I don’t need to arrange coverage or anything, just an out of office that says “SEE YA WHEN I GET BACK!” but in a more professional way LOL

I'm also the person who will RSVP the day I get the invitation, but many people are not like that. We invited 88 people and probably received about 8 replies (including my parents, so I know where I got it from!) within the first week of people receiving them. The bulk of them came in the last couple of weeks before the deadline and then we had to chase down answers from about 15 people after the deadline.

It depends who you have invited. A lot of people work some weekend time, oray need at least a few hours off work to travel. Whole industries, including most retail stores, groceries, all things medical, hotels and hospitality related things, most always work on a month calendar, a d except for your own funeral, will not give approval
for time off until 4 weeks or 30 days out. And if the do give permission months ahead, have the right to rescind it for their staffing needs up to 28 days. So if you have people like this, and your RSVP date is nearly a month ahead, lots of people are sometimes waiting
for job approval for someone, even kid's job, before sending an answer. The rest is procrastination. It makes a lot of people crazy, not just you.

Yup! Most places I’ve worked I’ve been able to request off months in advance. Only one place did I have to do it a couple of weeks in advance- I didn’t like it at all haha! I’m switching jobs this summer and as long as you have the vacation days, you can take off whenever
